So I'm new here and this has probably been talked about, but I wanted to see what other people's experience has been. I took anti-depressants for a while and they helped, but eventually I got off them and started meditating. For me meditating helped more than anti-depressants and it has made me grow as a more spiritual person.

meditating has helped me in several ways also wlup, it brings a sense of calmness... i spend time in contemplation and use my meditative state to create imaginary situations that i then perform inside of.. this mental practice is very useful for training the mind to react as i would prefer it to in any imagined situation.. kind of like 'practicing' life the way an athlete imagines perfect performance or a musician prepares for the presentation of his/her art... mentally practicing the skill has been shown in studies to increase confidence and awareness, and ability

That is interesting, what actually got me into mediatation as far as I remember was just wanting to explore what it is like to exist on a deeper level, I may have to try that sometime...BTW have you ever tried lucid dreaming? It is where you control your dreams, I'd imagine you could do the same thing that way too.
