The latest I read came out of an Illinois Tri-County NAMI newsletter on schizoaffective:

"Schizophrenia also affects mood. While many individuals affected with schizophrenia become depressed, some also have apparent mood swings and even bipolar-like states. When mood instability is a major feature of the illness, it is called schizoaffective disorder, meaning that elements of schizophrenia and mood disorders are prominently displayed by the same individual. It is not clear whether schizoaffective disorder is a distinct condition or simply a subtype of schizophrenia."

This may be old news but I thought it was interesting.

I think I probably have more symptoms of schizophrenia than bipolar. What I mean is, when my mood is stable I still see and hear things that aren't there, and have paranoid thoughts. Sometimes I kick in with the negative symptoms as well, which can look like depression, though to be honest, doesn't feel like it.

With meds it's under control, but the schizo symptoms are more ingrained than the mood disorder. In my case I think it's a form of schizophrenia, but I'm not sure.

I believe i may have this. My first diagnosis was depression, second bipolar, third schizophrenia. I experience mood swings and psychosis. It probably in the spectrum of schizophrenia though.
