I don't know when. it sort of came about slowly... it didn't change anything, to me it's just a title for them. on a side-note i told a friend i suffer from it today, and he kinda sketched out, lol. fun-times, well, i thought it was someone i could build trust with. we'll see.

At two different hospitals in two different states in Jan. and again in Oct. of 2004. I was initially being treated for symptoms a few months prior to Jan. 2004 hospitalization but I didn't become aware of my diagnosis until that Jan. hospitalization.

The docs first thought I had a schizophrenia related disorder as early as 1996. I was 13 at the time, very young for someone with schizophrenia/ schizoaffective. Then another breakdown more depressive related in 1998. It calmed down when I moved in 2000. It started creeping up on me starting in 2004 when I started writing delusions down. Officially was in 2007 (I think). Now I am 29 years young.

I was 19. Four years ago. It was spring time.
I showed up to the clinic extremely paranoid and suffering from PTSD. They immediately put me on Seroquel and told me I was Schizoaffective. The end.

I want to expunge it from my medical records.

Been seeing a pdoc since October 2008. First pdoc thought I was psychotic disorder NOS. Then I moved and had to change pdocs (well I took about 2 years to change...I just continued to drive to the old one, 90 minutes one way). Been seeing new pdoc since January of this year. He originally said he wasn't changing the old pdocs dx, but a couple visits ago (March 2012) changed it to schizoaffective.

I was in disagreement about this and he said it could still change in the future and he just needs the dx to justify treatment. I think he was just saying that to ease my mind. I doubt he is really thinking about changing it.

February 2007 for psychotic disorder. December 2005 for bipolar. Both soon to be erased forever.

I don't remember the exact date, but I know it was around 2001. Before that I had cycled through numerous other diagnoses, making me wonder if the psychiatrists knew what they were doing.
Thanks for this!

I was diagnosed Bipolar 1 a couple of years back, and then more recently a psychologist I went to for help with psychosis sent a letter to my pdoc saying it was more like Schizoaffective than Bipolar. My pdoc had just told me she thought it was something along those lines before she opened and read his letter. But for the official record she kept it Bipolar 1. I'm not complaining

I lurk here because there are people who have a lot in common with me.

I really don't like the way some doctors are in a hurry to slap a label such as Schizoaffective onto young people, especially when they have very little case history with that person, and in some countries, diagnoses like that can be very difficult to shake.

I was diagnosed manic depressive way back in 1990, I was 20 years old. That doctor did not know my whole history. I was in and out of treatment for years. In 2007, I was admitted to a mental facility and they took more history from me. I started going to group therapy. They put me in the schizophrenia group because og\f my hallucinations(verbal and audio). In March 2008, was admitted to another facility because I was seeing monsters coming out of my walls. I was on Tegretol, celexa, geodone, and abilify until 2011. I found a new PDOC. He listened to me, got all of my old records and immediatly said schizoaffective with depression. I am now on 9 mg of Risperdal a day, celexa, topamax, lamyctal, and other meds for health conditions. I still have hallucinations and depression. Thinking of asking doc if we can try new meds.

I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder in July 2012. I still have my doubts though. MDD (with psychosis) seems more likely. I think those two are confused sometimes.

Was diagnosed just this August, after a psychotic episode that happened during a manic episode. Prior to that my diagnoses were bipolar II and PTSD. The psychosis that occurred prior were brief, and always following a PTSD trigger, so it was just attributed to the PTSD, until August. I'm on 2mg risperidone now.

Officially I think it was sometime around October 2010. Was about 20 then.

Previous dx was just bipolar II, but the psychologist I had been seeing regularly for a few months noticed that I would have psychotic symptoms even when not having mood swings, so that kind of gave it away.
