What can cause a break with reality (delusion) to someone who has schizoaffective? Stress? Abuse? Trauma? Or just chemical imbalance? Or maybe a combination of the above?
I think of all the symptoms of schizoaffective, delusions are the most damaging. You know what is right, what is real, but you really have a hard time believing them. It's the root cause of paranoia and fixed false beliefs. I'm struggling to even understand the basics here.

Probably all of those have been suggested as possibilities. I'm not sure anybody knows yet for sure what one or ones might be more crucial. I'm sure it is something tough to deal with.

For me, in my experience it's been the chemical imbalance. Once I got on my meds I've felt like a normal person with less delusional thoughts. Also, what doesn't help is stress. Stress can be a major factor along with the chemical imbalance which will cause the delusion into paranoia.
I'm not an expert so don't quote me.

I know part of my schitzoaffective symptoms were brought on by several head injuries. Sometimes i relive the accidents while sleeping too. Otherwise, symptoms appear if I miss a dose of medication, and my body can tell so I take the missed dose and I'm usually fine afterwards.I hope this helps
