I wanted to introduce myself. Hi, I'm Aria. I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I had trouble accepting this, for a long time. I don't have hallucinations. But I do have some delusions and paranoia, and anxiety and depression. Right now I'm kind of a mess. I guess that's all I really feel like sharing right now, and I just wanted to "get out there," because I could use support... Have a good night everyone

Welcome. Schizoaffective and PTSD here. Went through 6 months of processing the diagnosis and stigma I had. I read at least 20 books on the subject and that helped me accept it, along with my therapist . Good luck!

Hi Aria,

I was diagnosed in January 2013 after battling untreated for more than 40 years. Like you, I was completely lost at first - but things improved tremendously after I had been stabilised. This took about 4 months.

I had lost touch with reality, but now I am feeling much better. Hallucinations and delusions have been greatly reduced and mood swings are much smoother.

My advice is to give the medications time to work, and try not to worry too much.

Aria, it was difficult for me to accept my diagnosis too. Therapy really helped me. I'm glad you are reaching out for help. There are many understanding people here. Just post as you feel comfortable......D.

Hi Aria. I have similar symptoms to you. It took a long time for me to accept my diagnosis too. Big issues for me are paranoia and delusions. I've worked with my therapist to do reality checks. It's helped a lot. Also taking my medication has helped a lot too. Welcome to PC

Hello, Aria. It took me months to feel stable with my current meds. I still struggle with paranoia and anxiety but my depression and voices are under control these days. But you know how that goes.
