Hey all,

I'm diagnosed schizoaffective and just wondered if anyone else experiences really bad itching all over?

I always get it especially when my thoughts are racing or when I'm stressed ort emotional.

Is this part of the illness or just something unrelated?

This is a very interesting question.

I also suffer from this phantom itching sensation, on my back just over the right shoulder blade. I have been bothered by this for about 5 years. I get it when I am disturbed about something.

The itching sensation is so bad that I have to stop what I am doing and scratch it with the aid of a sharp spiky hair brush. But the relief is usually short lived.

My ordinary doctor (not my psychiatrist) says my problem is probably neurological. If you are experiencing this all over your body, you really have my sincere sympathies.

Only your psychiatrist can tell you whether your itching may be related to your illness, and I would be interested to know what he/she says.

Does your skin become red/flushed and/or do you get tiny raised bumps, like hives?

I can't speak for russells, but with me there are no visible signs of anything wrong.

Experience skin drawing itchy all over when manic. I want to crawl out of my skin. Also itchy as reaction to various meds.

My condition (re: itching) is cholinergic urticaria. It is brought on by stress or when my internal body temp. rises (i.e. hot showers, exercising, summer, etc.).

Russells Welcome!!!!!!!!!I have an itchy back every once in a while, but if i schratch it, it goes away. I think it's a side effect of the meds

Russells!

I get a feeling of my skin crawling when I'm experiencing a mixed episode, and if something touches me, it makes me itch and feel really uncomfortable. Even my dog's soft fur brushing up against me drives me nuts. It's a horrible feeling so I sympathise While I have no idea of the actual cause, if it were meds I'd imagine it'd be there all the time rather than just when your thoughts are racing or you're feeling emotional...Best to ask pdoc to be sure though.

All the best,

*Willow*

I itch all over my body as well. Even my hair itches. I itch from head to toe. Nothing touches it. No meds. Hydroxyzine has helped a little bit but now I have too much in my system and my pdoc said I have to get off of it.

When even my scalp itches I know it's a reaction to a medication. And then it's time to move to the next one. I've tried about 20 and I think I've got the right one. Minimal side affects, things I can live with. : )

Hmm I've never thought about this before, but since you mention I do feel itchy when I'm in a bad mood or agitated, especially when I'm agitated actually and I get even more agitated by it because I can't scratch the itch away! Thank you for posting, very interesting to think about

Like you and Basshead have experienced, I get the all over "don't know what to do with myself" itch when extremely agitated. Like when my therapist touches on a really uncomfortable issue, or if I sense evil spirits trying to control me, I can get very itchy and agitated.

I also got the itch when I reacted to Prozac, and when I had akathisia while switching rapidly between various meds in an effort to control a mixed episode.
