Losing control of your thoughts and they start to race is a scary experience. We often use our thoughts to anchor us in reality and when we lose control of them we have lost our anchor.

When we undergo a fearful experience we use our inner chatter to try and keep us calm.

We fear we will act on impulsive thoughts, so staying in control of our body and thoughts makes us feel safe.

The racing thoughts will go after a while if you let them do their thing, if not seek professional medical help.
Thanks for this!

I strive to allow whatever thoughts arise to come & go as they will... with compassion...

Some of the more violent or disruptive insults have to be restrained. Fighting them can be extremely difficult sometimes, especially when your convinced that your inner voices are acting in your best interests.

When I was in episode back in September, I had created this concept to combat racing thoughts. It was the concept of focusing on the number one and the idea of one.

Now at my level of stability , I can say this concept no longer speaks to me in the way it did back then. However, the idea of one/1 spoke so much to me. Just repeating over the word one in my head, and counting to one in my head.

The struggle was realizing that to say that one meant one, one thing, and of course my thoughts were racing "well a thing is made up of atoms, which would be more than one atom". Again I snapped back to the idea of one, one is one.

I didn't bother for any other number but one, it was as if all I could learn was the number one. I kept saying to myself all that matters is the 'one', and the thoughts would keep telling me "surely there is more than one" like some devil trying to tempt me.

Here's a dialogue,
Quote:
Me: The NUMBER 1, ONE!
thoughts: HAHAHA! MAGNIFY IT AND COUNT THE NUMBER OF PIXELS YOU SEE! ONE IS NOT ONE! HAHAHA!
me: THE NUMBER IS ONE IN PURE SINGULAR SENSE.
thoughts: AT WHAT SIZE? AT WHAT DEPTH? AT WHAT WIDTH?
me:ARGH! THE SINGULAR, IDEA, CONSTRUCT OF ONE AND THE IDEA IT REPRESENTS!
thoughts: SURELY ONE THING IS MADE UP OF MORE THAN ONE THING HAHAHA!
That was the type of internal dialogue I was having with myself, as I was lying face down on the floor hopping not to move. It didn't matter though with racing thoughts that I was lying on the floor I could of been lying on the surface of mars for all that mattered because the dialogue was so out there.
I stuck to it, no matter how crazy it got. Till eventually I landed in the psyche ward all safe and sound!
