And can you tell me how you accomplished it? Thank you for whatever you can share.

Hi Breaking Dawn,
I once had met a drama therapist who said people successfully calmed voices (as well as images too) by "acting" them out. Essentially, the patient became the director with the help of the therapist and instructed actors on what the voices were saying. The actors used the words and phrases and tones that were in the patient's head. And by externalizing the voices this way, actually calmed them down or in some cases, made them disappear altogether. |

I just finished a conversation with the main voices about emotions, & they claim that they don't know what emotional pain, sadness, or compassion feels like. So they don't understand what suffering feels like. I'm waiting for covid to go away before I go for medical help. I've been keeping the voices a secret so far, except for one friend, who helped me find these forums.

Completely? Not without good meds. But focusing intensely on something (music, reading something I can get lost in, using grounding techniques) helps quell them temporarily.

@Breaking Dawn Compassionate Abiding is a Buddhist practice. And everything I know about it I learned from reading the writings of the Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön. It is my go-to practice for any-&-all things in my life which are anxiety as well as depression producing. (And there are a multitude of them.) I highly recommend Ani Pema's books. There are also videos, on YouTube, of talks she has given over the years.

Medication and meditation help me. I haven't heard voices in a long time.
