Don't really know what to say or how i feel at that matter.... i need wine and to isolate myself for a good 48hours. This bored looks pretty empty so i figure it's not so popular on here, A? |

When I was diagnosed, I went in order to be evaluated for possible Asperger's. The psychologist decided it was schizoid personality disorder (though he downplayed the disorder part). From what I understand, it isn't even going to be listed in the DSM-V as a personality disorder. For me, it's just an explanation for why I perfer my own company, don't have a particularly wide range of emotions, and tolerate being around others only in short spurts (though I can easily stand up and teach a class or give a lecture; but those don't involve any particular degree of socialization). It really doesn't change anything and I see no reason for me to do anything about it. |

I've just been diagnosed myself. I think 'schizo' in front of any word can be frightening. But for me, after having these symptoms for over a year, I was so grateful to at least know what I was dealing with and I wasn't alone. I found lots of support here, at this site. So glad I found it.

Yes you may need to work on certain parts of yourself but that's true of most people (doesn't mean they do it of course). (For me reminding myself that diagnoses were invented as a way to help facilitate treatment standards among doctors is helpful because it reminds me that they were created for a specific purpose [to help professionals], and they are *not* descriptions of some underlying "objective reality".
