(sorry probably spelt it wrong)
CAN there be a link to the two? I think there might be in my case. Again everyone is different but......... One evening I was chatting to a friend on the phone one saturday night and (its a long story about how we got onto this subject perhaps I'll post a thread about it another day) the conversation got on to mediums etc. Her grandmother had passed 'on' nearly a year before so anyway, I 'connected' with her grandmother and heard her speak in my head. Anyway I only ended up saying the name of the town my friend was born down AND if that wasn't enough the name of the ROAD she was born down too. Plus loads of other accurate and meaningful stuff. Funnily enough the words had no meaning to me whatsoever, the name of the town and the name of the road meant nothing to me at all. Same with the other stuff, it was my friend who put the meaning to the words. Incidentally this all started once I was on the meds. Anyone else believe they are clairevoyant? |

Sometimes I do. I think the disease makes us more sensitive to the world around us and therefore gives us perceptions not caught by the average person.
I have heard the wind talk and angels sing. When I told my best friend that I heard angels singing and I must be crazy she said maybe there were angels singing. I think we sometimes write things off due to the disease instead of seeing them for the extrordinary things that they are Kayti |

I've been saying this for years, I've even had candid conversation with mental health professionals. I was once asked if I searched for it to find some answer to the illness. I said perhaps. I've gone ghost hunting with a few people and at times I was the ONLY one that ever felt anything. I'd hear these ghost talking to me and I'd tell the owner of the haunt what I seen and/or heard and they'd confirm it. I had the camera so every time I'd "feel" something I'd take a picture. Got some stunning results too. So yes, I do believe there's a connection. I've actually have wondered if schizophrenia is not more spiritual in nature. By spiritual I mean I think...I know there's another dimension of existence out there.

Hey Joan, quite the interesting post......I have thought these things as well...no real surprise there....I have also had moments of knowing where people, complete strangers were from, and a situation they might be going through...and yes there is that sensativity to the world....we see it, feel it, smell it, hear it and embrace it differently than most other people. Strangely however my most intouch moments were when I wasn't on meds.....but there are weaker things that happen while on meds..more of a prediction sixth sense or knowing things in just the knick of time that were completely lost on me.....
I have a theory as well about something else related to schizophrenics.....its just a theory..it came from a vision I had in a half in half out sleep.....along with it came an intense dream that showed me how a single good intentioned touch..a touch can change the world..and as well as an ill intented one can eat it away....quite a dramatic dream.....but anyways.....I am going to post my theory.....excellent convo topic again...hopefully more people will reply to it. Take care all. ![]()

The thing is I have video, audio and picture proof. yeah I may suffer from PS BUT tell that to the others who have witnessed what I have. One time we skipped over the fence at a cemetery (Antioch of Rest in Grandview to be exact) a cop pulled up, asked what we were doing, we told him the truth. He then started asking questions. As we stood there, this fog drifted between us, he says WTF was that?! We told him see? That's what we came here for! He started to swear, then he said okay yall really need to leave and I am gonna tell the other officers...Please let me know if you get anything in those pictures yall are taking! We then left shortly after the cop did.

It is interesting that I read one time that the group of professionals that have the percentage with the lowest belief in psychic abilities are psychiatrists. The biochemical model or material model believes that the mind is a product of the brain and contained within. There is an interesting book that I read a while back entitled Extraordinary Knowing. It was written by a lady psychiatrist who had a psychic dowser help find her daughter's harp. The success of the dowser had a big impact on the psychiatrist's view of reality. Dean Radin also has an interesting book entitled Entangled Minds. He list many studies of different psychic abilities. Ervin Laszlo wrote a very interesting book with a theory that explains much about unexplained phenomenon entitled Science and the Akashic Field.

Interesting posts folks.
Another experience (and there have been a fair few) was whilst chatting to someone online, I'd hardly ever had a conversation with her before and I mentioned (I had posted a thread about mediumship on a website which is how we got chatting in the first place) that I seemed to be able to connect with people that have passed on (or at least connect with something about them anyway). She said I could practice on her, sooooo, I heard a voice telling me something about an afro hairstyle, I had absolutely no idea what this meant (her picture on the website showed her hair to be long and straight) in fact my first thought was that the voice was telling me she used to have a perm or something. Wrong. Her dad, who has passed on, used to have really tight frizzy hair! There you go. Spooky eh? |

Absolutely I think there is a link between the two. I always get to thinking that what if the "voices" I am hearing are not actually a problem, but just an abnormality that can give me insight into the world? What if it's a gift? Most people can't understand something like that and brush it off as a problem that need fixing. But what if it isn't? What if, with a little more understanding, I could use it for the betterment of myself?
I don't know how, and to tell you the truth my dillusions seem to do more harm than good (though I have had very beneficial ones that have put me in complete awe) but...just a thought. |

Yeh, supposing the thoughts are from spirits and the like, and they don't leave you alone, what choice do we have other than to take meds to shut down areas that make us susceptible to this sort of phenomenon? Course in the old days they would say that exorcism would be a solution, not sure about all that sort of thing in this day and age though and anyway isn't it all to do with some sort of religion?
I'm sure we cook up a lot of it and much of it is to do with the deeper recesses of our brains and our subconcious can play a big part. But, also, spiritual phenonomen like spirits, demons and stuff could be part of it as well don't you think? They might trick us into thinking our closest and dearest are in some sort ofconspiracy against us or all kinds of stuff really. Yes, trickery. Personally I don't think this is anymore farfetched than the theory that I am totally imagining all of this myself. Many of us think something is with us when we hallucinate, maybe it is. |

I’ve always thought this. I think most people have a window into another realm of thought, but not many look into it. I don’t think everyone is always a cookie cutter image of what the DSM states. I think psychologists tend to look at things logically which would cut out the paranormal, out of body experience, and past life. Not typical thoughts. Does schizophrenia exist? I’ve debated with this, for, oh so many years now. I was diagnosed at 18/19 and STILL have no clue. I tend to think it’s a mixed thing. I definitely think People who have a form of mental illness, typically are more empathic and hypersensitive.

I do not doubt the connection as schizophrenia makes us more sensitive to all stimuli around us, seen and possibly unseen, outside and inside ourselves. It can be difficult to distinguish among them. I have a book call Psychosis and Spirituality, which makes similar connections, each chapter written by a different, credentialed author. billieJ

Its good to hear like-minded views from peeps on here.
I do wonder if, when the voices are nasty and abusive, if we have somehow become in touch with malevolant spririts or mishevious spirits that mislead and misguide us. If these voices are indeed a separate identity and entity to our own minds then we need to be able to shut them out when we want to. 'Talking' to them, and reasoning with them as respected psychologists like Rufus May have suggested, doesn't always do the trick. Lets face it some spirits, as some humans are, are just plain evil. Sometimes there's no rationalising with evil. We can't always turn evil into good therefore we need some method of blocking them. I have found my medication does this for me, however I am open-minded to the possibility that some therapies can help, although none have for me. However, aside from medication, I wonder if there is some kind of spiritual protection that we can practice. |

Also....I wonder if we sometimes take on others' feelings as our own. Sometimes I think I might have done this in the past and its okay if you manage to keep a strong sense of your own identity but much more difficult when you are at a younger and more vulnerable age and don't recognise whats happening. This is not to say we should blame the other person but rather try to keep our own sense of ourselves.

This is so interesting that people are thinking about this. I have always known that I have had a special psychic intuition. I can't seem to control it very well, but things happen then I put things together. I am almost always right too. I feel like this is a special gift, and I always give in to my intuitions. I listen carefully to my mind speaking, because more often than not, it will lead me to something new and exciting. The medication does kind of dull this 6th sense a little, but not completely. I have gotten some books about psychic intuition, and they have helped me to fine tune this ability a lot.
