My hallucinations are getting worse. I used to only hear things once in a while and the sounds and voices that I was hearing sounded far away. The sounds and voices are becoming louder. However, I still can’t make out what they are saying. Last night I heard my husband pull up the driveway three times almost back to back in his car with the radio blaring. We have a pretty sound proof house (as we live next to an airport), so even if he did pull up, I don’t think that I would have heard it that loud.
Also, I have been seeing what I thought at first was my cat in different places in the house. He is a dark gray cat. Anyway, I have now discovered that they are dark shadows. These dark shadows have evolved into people shaped shadows that I am now seeing while I am driving or out of the corner of my eye when walking with someone.
I thought maybe this could be a spiritual thing. Meaning that I am seeing people from the afterlife and hearing them but am not quite in tune with them. Kind of like a stereo not on the right station. I am quite concerned, because I have also had this idea that my husband is wanting to leave me because I am having too many problems. It is not true, and I know this to some extent, but I am rationalizing my belief that he is going to leave me no matter how many times he tells me that he isn’t.
One of the issues that I also have is the fact that the hallucinations, (visual distortions-something else I have been having as well), and also some delusional thinking have all started basically about 6 months ago and I am almost 43 years old. I am bipolar and have been cycling a lot lately, but these symptoms have been happening no matter what mood I am in.
I keep explaining this to my pdoc, and she isn’t concerned. I am though. I’m getting paranoid and scared. Has anyone had a problem with patterns or bubbly lettering seeming like they are something other than they are and then irritating you so much that you have to cover it up or remove it from your presence?
Should I keep a log of all incidences that I am experiencing? I just want to know that others have experienced something similar.
Thank you. I know I have talked about this before, but it seems like it is getting worse. I am not experiencing things every day and multiple times per day.

My first psychosis progressed through stress and them bam.. No insight to the voices or delusions. Had to be told I was psychotic and that the voices weren't normal.

That's something that makes it unlikely maybe. Or it's quasi psychosis (a progressing psychosis that may not turn into full blown psychosis).

Just some info from someone with schizotypal.

Try not to stress about it and most importantly, calm your mind any way you can. Don't try to fight it either. Only with meds.

Have you ever heard of something like this happening? If I figure out that they are not real on my own, then what could possibly cause something like this? You probably don't know, but maybe you might have some insight?

You are right. I need to calm myself down and relax. Deep breaths is what I practice on a regular basis.

Oh ya the voices start off dim and quiet and then it can get to the point where they are screaming at you

I am more calm now. I haven't seen or heard anything since Saturday, so yesterday was a good day. I am hoping that it was just taking a few days for my increase in my antipsychotic to kick in. I'm still nervous though, because I've had a break for a day or two and then the voices, noises, and dark shadows come back. I am scared that what I am hearing and seeing has to do with spiritual forces like I'm a psychic who can hear into the afterlife and so forth. I'm also more prone to the delusions, voices, and dark shadows when I'm alone, and I will be tonight. But in short to answer your question, so far, today is a good day. Anyway, thank you so much for checking in on me. I truly appreciate it.

How long have you been taking Abilify? Among its side effects it says also that it can cause hallucinations or such... I know they prescribe it for bipolar and other things too...

Sorry to hear this has been so confusing for you... When my voices first started I didn't know if it was spirits/ancient deities or such either... Hope things get better!

Are you taking any supplements? Sometimes they can help, like fish oil or magnesium (though if you take fish oil and Mg together they can lower the blood pressure, I drink rosemary tea to help with that, as I've had low blood pressure before)

Actually, my symptoms started after I was taken off of the Abilify last summer. It took about two months of trying different medications before my symptoms started. They only started after the only medications I was on was lorzepam and 100 mg of lamictal. No antipsychotic.
Then I was put on Abilify after my symptoms went away after ECT treatments or maybe they went dormant for a brief while. Then they came back and gradually got worse. I was put on a very low dose of Abilify in the hospital after the symptoms had started and was gradually increased. It wasn't until I just recently got increased that my symptoms to 15 mg that my symptoms subsided again. However, I thought they went away completely, because I didn't have any symptoms on Sunday and Monday. Had some symptoms last night. So unfortunately, I wish Abilify was the culprit, but it isn't. Anyway, depression has now kicked in as well, so I don't think 15 mg is good for me either. Hopefully will be able to talk to pdoc today.
