I want to encourage people on here to take up a hobby. I'm about to get a gerbil. It really helps!

I've had gerbils in the past. Lovely little cretters, but they can nip! Still have a guinea pig, a cat, some hens. And I play guitar, am learning violin... and yes, hobbies REALLY help!!!

I think that anything that takes your mind off things helps. I like to play word games: mad libs, unscramble etc. and it always lessens my fears.
Thanks for this!

I try to work on my hobbies when I have enough concentration and am not too agitated. I always need to do things with my hands, paint, make things, refinish furniture. It really does help. Reminds me of the saying "idle hands are the devil's playthings".

Video games or watching reruns of my favorite gilmore girls (yes I know haha) helps calm me when I am too wound to partake in my hobbies.

I had a pug but when I moved he had to go live with my boyfriend, no pets allowed here, but pets are great, I really miss him.

Can you volunteer at a shelter? My local shelter has volunteers who play with and groom the cats (to keep them socialized) and who walk the dogs.
