I take medicine for schizophrenia, or schizo/affective. I need a chance at safely trying life without medicine. Thank you. Your signature is greatly appreciated.

I have to ask, but you don't have to answer; what do you not like about medication? Have you tried many options? And what plan do you have to try living without it in a safe environment where professional care is available to you in case you need treatment, because you have stopped taking the medication to treat your illness?

This is a really personal decision, but also a medical decision, and random people on the internet are not going to convince your parents to do something that seems counter-intuitive to them at this time. I don't know how old you are so I don't know where your parents fit into this. But if you want to convince your parents, your best bet is to convince your doctor, and let your doctor do the talking for you. They can't really say no to that.

Thanks for your advice. I think as I grow older I will get more power over my meds. I know a doctor who will give me a shot at life without medicine. Convincing my present doctor to let me get off meds now would be a miracle.

The medicine just doesn't help me. Perhaps it's keeping me from being psychotic, but besides that it just makes my life heavy and difficult. I remember life before I got ill. It was much easier. Thanks for your reply.

I kinda dont want to sign it. Im not against you wanting to be off your meds- heck, i know what its like. Ive been on meds since i was 12 years old.
But its not "abnormal" to take meds. Theres no shame. I take them so i can better cope with issies. They GIVE ME a second chance at life, they dont take anything away from my life. Except for a few minutes out of the day to take them.
Not sure its the best idea, since schizophrenia is a monster to deal with without meds... Ive been there. Believe me.

I wasnt on the right meds from the ages of 14-15, and I seemed possessed to most people- i was angry and preoccupied with furious thoughts. I was an angry paranoid schizophrenic.

However, im a happy person nowadays... I just feel tranquilized at times... But thats mostly because of other issues (im kind of hedenophobic...)

good luck... If you still wish to be off meds, its ultimately up to you and your doctor. I hope you feel well soon, and can be tapered off... Stay healthy!(:

Well it makes it hard to lose weight and its easier for me to be depressed. I can't do what I used to be able to do.

I don't like taking my pills either. Sometimes I just want to stop all meds. I am sorry that you are having side effects. I get a lot of side effects as well. With my Loxapine (an anti psychotic) it gets me extremely tired. I sleep 12-14 hours a day and still feel tired. When I had to take some in the morning I slept an additional 2-4 hours during the daytime. That is up to 18 hours a day asleep! By the way I still felt tired even after 18 hours! I begged to the psychiatrist to stop the morning dose and take it all at night. I have had other pills that put on a lot of weight. Luckily I don't take those ones anymore. I have bad luck with pills. Wouldn't you hear a lot more voices if you get off the meds? Sometimes I do go off of my pills intentionally because of the side effects. I usually don't go off of them a long time though. I do notice a difference when I go off of them but I usually don't care because I feel more awake. Sometimes the problem is that I stay up all night when I do go off of them because of severe insomnia. I get both insomnia and hypersomnia. Mainly hypersomnia because of the pills. Tired 24 hours a day. On the pills it increases my yawning. When I have a lot of energy off the pills I don't yawn nearly as often. Its because of the extreme tiredness I feel on the pills. I am with you in how awful the side effects are. But without the pills for a long time it is bad. I don't know how I survived college without pills. I started having some problems that I kept secret for years. I didn't let it affect my school work though because I was a total perfectionist in college. My most stable time in my entire life was in flight school. The only mental illness I had was GAD. that is why I didn't solo or get my license. I was terrified. I had problems before flight school during my teen years. Around 12/ 13 I went psychotic and suicidally depressed. I had problems again at 16. But after I moved I had no problems for a few years. It got worse after I graduated college because I didn't know what to do and our financial situation and my mom's health deteriorated so that is what caused everything. You probably need the pills or get on different pills that doesn't have the side effects that you are experiencing.

Wow thanks for all that. I know I could go pyscotic again if I get off meds, but I want a safe chance at it.

Taking my meds is part of life now. I hate taking them but I know what will happen if I stop. review all your options before you make a rash desion
