Can somebody explain me about the voices...
Whats the difference between hearing voices and talking to yourself? Sometimes I can be sitting down and i hear something talking to me (In my head) and telling me nasty jokes about somebody and i ended up laughing about it. This happens sometimes , not all the time. Can anybody explain this to me? I'm very confused. |

voices come with a few different disorders for example I have Dissociative Identity Disorder. My type of voices are different than my friends with Bipolor and schitzophrenia. My voices are memories of words and sounds kind of like when you hear a song on the radio or a CD and after you shut off the radio and CD player a few hours later you find in your mind you are replaying that song again. My voices are the same thing only they are from memories that I can't remember like the words "you like that don't you?" keeps going through my head at times. I have no idea what it goes to, it just keeps repeating. sooner or later whatever memory that goes to will surface and I will know what the trigger is and be able to stop it from happening again. I can do this without medication because my disorder is not a chemical imbalance in the brain.
Whereas my friend and neighbor who has schitophrenia she can't watch a normal tv show because she hallucinates - hears voices from the tv telling her they are going to kill her. She can't use a microwave oven because when she turns it on she hears a voice in the hum of the microwave telling her the government people are out to get her and the microwave is going to zap her so they can bust through her door and rape her, kill her, and so on. Her voices come from a chemical imbalance of the brain and when she takes her medication she no longer hallucinates (no longer hears the voices) |

My pdoc at the hospital asked me: if the voice was inside my head---or heard outside, if the voice was me--or sounded like someone else, if there was one--or more than one, if they talked to me--or each other, when they did talk to me were they nice--or telling me to hurt myself or others. I don't know if that is more a personal panel of questions based on my answers...or a general battery of questions, sorry =/
Auditory hallucinations are at least fairly common in: schizo affective disorder, schizophrenia, ptsd, severe depression--I know of these, there maybe others. I don't know your situation, but if you have a therapist or pdoc you may want to ask about it...or with your general practioner if you don't have either a t or pdoc. Hope that helps? |

The questions about inside or outside the brain. This is a distinguishing factor for Diagnosing DID and PTSD (which voices with this come in flashback memories of trauma) because they are the only disorders where the voices are inside the head. Professionals rule those out first and then they know they can work the medication route with the person to get rid of the voices that result from chemical imbalance. If DID and PTSD are ruled in the professional knows medication won't work on the voices and refers the person to a therapy professional.

The kind of voice that i experience are kind of like racing thoughts.. I know the kind of voices that i experience aren't as serious as some people experience. The voices keeps me company when I am alone. Sometimes the voices can be nasty... like talking bad about somebody that i like... I even laugh about it too... Anybody experiences theses kinds?

That's kind of similar to the kind I used to have. I had two, one on each side of me--one was mainly good and we would chat...though she could get as nasty as the other one was all the time. They kept up a running commentary about things going on around me as well as about what I was thinking. Sometimes they didn't speak intelligibly--but scream or make repetative noises for hours. I don't know if that is very similar to yours?

don't think you want to hear what I have to say about voices be it inside or outside. drs think they know so much. they just make you feel bad about yourself is all just to get you to take a pill or to go to this session or what ever.

I choose to not let them put anymore lables on me because of voices or because of what I see. Screw them!!!!!! They do not know what I see. I have seen beautiful mind and I know what he saw but what I see is in their eyes in their being not in never never land. It is disrespectful these advertisements to some of us.

sometimes the noise in my head is so loud i cant sleep. sometimes i hear babies crying. (when i used to smoke marijuana, i used to hear voices and chaotic nonstop noise. it was so loud i would yell at people cuz i couldnt hear my own voice over the noise. but thats why i dont smoke it. well, that and the paranoia.)
but lately ive been in an uppity mood so there arent really any voices. i wonder why they come and go. |

You have control over them and you know what your internal voice is going to say next. Hearing voices, which can be either external, or internal, are out of your control. When they are inside your head, it is like having thoughts that are not your own thoughts...like telepathy. They just keep talking and you can't control them. Most of the voices i hear are internal. They are very disturbing. They make me feel sick. They are completly seperate from my own internal dialogue. I sometimes hear voices outside my head too. These sound completly real, as though there are really other people in the room with me. Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out that they are not real. The other day i was sitting on the sofa and i started hearing a evil sounding man talking really fast up near the ceiling. It sounds like what you are experiencing is hearing voices, that is if the voices in your head are beyond your control and not your own internal voice. Do they bother you? if so, you should seek treatment. |

And it can become negative especcially if you are depressed and have low self esteem. For example, you might be saying to yourseld in your head "god, im so stupid" "i should die", etc. But when people are "hearing voices" in their head, it's not their own voice...its voices of different people and the difference between your own internal voice and hearing other voices inside you, is that you can control your own voice, you know what it;s going to say. |
