hi, i'm a sister of a brother who was just a few months ago dignosed with psychosis. I find it really hard to understand it all. I can't imagine how he feels. There are days now that i'm not sure if i know whats real and what isn't. I'm on here looking for some support of others to get us through this mental illness and help us (us as in my family and me) understand it better.

Hi mistykelly and Welcome.

I can imagine it is hard for all of you to understand.

Was wondering, is your brother in any kind of therapy? I struggle with paranoid disorder (I sure don't like that title hi there i'm new )--although not been diagnosed as delusional. Anyway, I have found so far... the very best thing has been when people DON'T deny my thoughts. It's so invalidating to be told the way one is thinking is WRONG or nonsense.

My current therapist has been very helpful in listening to me and then having me hear a different view than my own.... that has been a big help. I feel like I'm being listened to and also I'm given another possible view to think about. Not sure if it will help your brother-- but it is gradually opening my eyes to other worlds-- less threatening ones.

However, I believe that the person must really want to get beyond how they are currently functioning-- otherwise-- it could become a battle. Years ago-- no one could tell me there was anything wrong with the way I thought. I --myself-- got tired of the circle my life kept going around in. I hope your brother will be open to getting help.

I know of some websites I could steer you to if you're interested--- if so, PM me and I will be glad to send them to you.
Good luck to you, your brother and the rest of your family.

Hi thank you for taken the time for writeing to me. Yes my brother is in the hospitable right now. He went in on short stay end of november was out before christmas. He was still having very parnoid thoughts of people after him trying to do him in. So with that being said he never kept his appointments with his doctors because he thought they were all set ups. So he went into a long care unit agaist his will when he did show up for an appointment so they could change his medication. Its only been 1 month since his long care stay and still has thoughts and lashes out at us family members verberally when he's out on a day pass.He hasn't been able to come home yet to stay for the night just a few day passes now and then and we don't see any good changes in him yet. Except that he is in there and its given us time to get things done for our selves a bit but the phone calls from him depress us wondering what we should do or if this is the best place for him right now? So many answered questions we have.
