This is a great quote. Do you relate to it?
Thanks for this!

I certainly relate to this. The docs are always trying to "ground" me in this world but knowing I carry an illness does not make the symptoms stop.
Thanks for this!

Exactly. I've never found "acknowledging" I was "crazy" to be one bit helpful. I am very sorry if you are having problematic symptoms right now.
Thanks for this!

If I were a slightly more malicious person, I would mail this on a postcard to every psychiatrist I could find. Brilliant.

FYI- did you know Mr. Mark Vonnegut is Kurt Vonnegut's son and is now... believe it or not!! he is a practicing pediatrician. In other words, an M.D.

he is definitely a success story.

He is also known for saying this: at the very last page of his book,
Mark states : "It means nothing to anyone, unless you recover."
Thanks for this!

"None of us are entirely well, and none of us are irrevocably sick. At my best I have islands of being sick entirely. At my worst I had islands of being well. Except for a reluctance to give up on myself there isn't anything I can claim credit for that helped me recover from my breaks. Even that doesn't count. You either have or don't have a reluctance to give up on yourself. It helps a lot if others don't give up on you." -- Mark Vonnegut, Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So: A Memoir, quoted in an Amazon.com review.

"It's possible within any given moment of any given day to choose between self and sickness. Rarely are there big heroic choices that will settle matters once and for all. The smallest positive step is probably the right one." -- Mark Vonnegut, Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So: A Memoir, quoted in an Amazon.com review.
