Im in my early thirties living with a relative. My whole family and doctor advices risperdal and i have made it clear i dont believe i need it to get better. My sibling gives me my medicine at night and i sout it out. My whole family has made it clear How much better i am on the meds (even though im not takng them). Ive had psychosis three times( but only after smoking weed and doing oxy so i dont know if its the effect from the drugs). I am fine, i have no psychotic symptoms whatsoever. I have tried in months prior to tell my family in every way i know how taking drugs isnt right for me but they push and push and push. Eventually i realized i had no choice since im living with one of them (who talks to my parents every day). Sometimes i get rather angry that my whole family has signed me up for a chemical lobotomy when i dont want it. I am now preparing myself to tell this lie for months, if not years...has anyone been in a similar aituation, and if so, how did you deal with it? Ive tried the truth and it leads to 3 against one anger towards me for not doing "everything i can to get better". I know i must lie...

I'm sorry you're in a situation where you feel you have to lie. That's really sad. I think you should be able to be in charge of your own medication. They shouldn't be feeding it to you unless you had asked for assistance with taking it. (which you clearly haven't)
If they think you're doing well now, could you later reveal to them that you hadn't been taking it? Demonstrating that you do well without the meds? I hope you'll be able to come clean eventually. Lying all the time is a heavy burden.

I know that some people don't believe anything unless they hear it from an authority figure. For example, I work with diabetes specialists and my dad has really bad diabetes. I give him advice and he won't listen. But then a doctor gives him the exact same advice and suddenly it's the truth and must be followed!

So my advice is this... do you have a psychiatrist or psychologist that you check in with? Perhaps if you show that you're doing fine off your meds clinically, then you can have the "doctor" tell your family your doing well without meds at this time. Sounds weird, I know, but better than having to lie forever.

Lying to them is (sadly) sometimes the only thing that will work. I've been off the drugs (extremely successfully) for four years, but I still tell my family I get depot injections. Little white lies, eh? If you can successfully spit them out for long enough, eventually your family will get tired of feeding them to you and back off a bit, I imagine.

Don't tell the docs you're not drugging yourself; unless you have a fantastic doc all it will mean is that the will find more creative ways to forcibly drug you.

this makes me wanna get off my meds.. but the threat of hospitalization and other things keeps me from doing it. GOOD LUCK!

To tell you the truth i think if you tell a doctor they will try to get you on meds.. just saying. im not saying staying off the meds is the right or wrong thing.

one time i lied about taking my meds and they couldnt tell the difference but its not like that anymore (this was prob 3-4 years ago). my symptoms are a lot worse now. a lot. they actually worsen as a i get older. in fact every 6 months something has become more severe or theres some new symptom. even non family members can tell when im off them now too

no your right they will. thats why its either best not to say anything or say it later after you did it yourself.

and hospitalization scares me but what scares me more than anything is state hospital. i have now about 10 hospital stays. i know they see my records....

theres a slight difference in a emergency psychiatric hospital and a state hospital. one being that (at least in my state) every city has an emergency short term psych hospital. now state hospital..people actually stay there for months. thats the plan - is that its long term. some may have an emergency ward too idk. but not all hospitals are long term. not all are equipped to take everyone that comes in and keep them for months. they are to get people stabilized and get them back into society. state hospitals can hold people for lots of months at a time.
