"Keane" is a drama btw also "Clean, Shaven" is too. EXTREME dramas. its pretty sad. clean shaven is scary but not horror scary its scary in the sense that his symptoms are very very very bad and you experience them too with the sight and sound in the movie and it doesnt even use special effects. its thats good. they are so bad yet he functions semi well. SEMI.

I think that's really rude!! I had some Malaysian friends and they almost always spoke english around me. If one of them slipped up and spoke Malaysian, they would apologise and translate it for me. It must be very lonely sat with a group of people whilst they speak a language you don't understand

I think the trouble with finding people who are high functioning with mental illness to relate to is that they don't want to self identify.
I wouldn't.
Thanks for this!

I was trying to find an angry smiley in response to you, but stumbled on this instead. It expresses my feelings exactly:

That's true. I don't self-identify as "mentally ill" but yeah . . . you know . . . I still want support

Fish, I was thinking about you yesterday and had a brain wave. Have you heard of the Hearing Voices Network?? They'll probably have meetings somewhere in London:

That might fit your needs better than a schizophrenia support group. I doubt they would need you to be medicated or have a pdoc to go as I think they have people who hear voices who've never seen a pdoc.

I used to go to a hearing voices group! I was heavily involved (read: copywriting their campaign/info) for three years and trained to be a group coordinator. I really liked it . . . until they started running the central London groups through MIND, and in order to access MIND services (at least in London) you need a doc/pdoc referral :'(

Son of a gun! How frustrating! Can't you get some doc to sign off for you? Don't you have Rufus May there? (He accepted my fb friend request a couple of days ago btw. )

If you can tell me how to navigate the NHS and find a new doc who will sign off without forcing drugs down my throat, I'll be forever in your debt!

That sucks! The whole point of the Hearing Voices Network is that they don't medicalise hearing voices!!

Wouldn't your GP refer you if you asked, without forcing you to see a pdoc?? My soon-to-be-ex pdoc doesn't force meds on me (probably because she thinks I'm a time waster!), so there are some out there . . . It's just finding them that's the trouble :s

i don't know what goes on over sees, but in my state in the us you can attend a hearing voices network group without any outside referral or anything. you don't even have to have a formal diagnosis, or declare one even if you have one. that's ******.

I'm 24. I never realized we were so close in age. Sorry, I haven't been around much. A high finctioning group would be kind of nice. I don't know. I feel like I don't really fit in anywhere. I'm pretty highfunctioning (college educated, have successfully held down jobs, and kept diagnoses secret), but I'm constantly worried I'm going to break and almost scared of being highfunctioning cause then if I break it will be more noticable. I don't know. I can't think right now. Brain is cloudy. Can't consentrate. Sick. I know it's just a stupid cold but it seems like things that barely cloud a 'normal' persons brain are really debilitating when you add i to the normal cloudiness medication causes. Sorry. Way sidetracked. Maybe I'll have a more coherent reply in a few days.
Also, thanks for the movie suggestions newtus. I'm into the same movies.

Well, if anything fish! There's me & ickydog that you can talk to if you need any outside perspectives. I don't appear to hold myself together very well, but I'm a lot more well-controlled IRL than I am online. This is just my outlet so I don't drive everyone else crazy.
Thanks for this!
