I'm new to the forum. I've been diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 2006. I've always had problems with sleeping at night and even in the daytime I can have problems. Right now I'm going through a tough time again with falling asleep or staying asleep. I'm having and seeing strange thoughts and images in my head when I just lay in bed or I hear voices, plus I believe I am being watched my evil ghosts. When I am sleeping I have very vivid dreams sometimes scary sometimes just plain odd, i wake up to voices talking to me or screaming.
Anyone having a tough time with sleeping? |

I am not diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar with psychotic features, but, I have a lot of trouble with sleeping. Except, when my husband is there I sleep fine. I don't know why.
but, of course I don't always have my husband there. He goes to bed at different times than me, and before him I had sever insomnia due to racing thoughts. Like you say, strange thoughts or even just reliving the past over and over in my head.... can't sleep with that going on. One thing that helps me is white noise, like a fan. Having a fan on is very soothing to me. It helps me block out noises (like the house settling,) and something to focus on that is steady so I fall asleep.

I have a really hard time with sleeping. Unmedicated I have vivid nightmares everynight, and struggled to sleep with the voice talking nonstop. I still struggle to get to sleep. Listening to news helps some, especially stations like fox that repeat the same loop every half hour in the night. My dad uses this too. When he wakes up it's a little less freaky when there is this constant drone of news to help orient you to your surroundings. I usually take a sleeping pill once a week or two to catch up on sleep or a couple benadryl.
Wishing you the best of luck.

My daughter doesn't sleep a lot of the time. She is afraid something bad is going to happen, so she will stay up all night. I am going to have to suggest some of these things to her.
