Rough. I work in a psy hospital and the police can be called by families to transport their kids or family if they need transport to the hospital for emergencies. Sometimes well call in advance and let them know the situation. They're great w it. A lot ppl don't realize you have this option but they can assist.

That's why it's so creepy that someone is trying to hire off-duty cops to 'escort' their son.

Wow, that's messed up! Also, "special project"? That is distinctly creepy.

The cops can't force the son to go...he's 19 and considered an adult, but maybe it's the extra push of seeing someone in uniform that the son needs to go. Just a thought.
Thanks for this!

Maybe the person who placed the ad is not aware that that is an option.
It's creepy, but I think that his motivation is just to get his son to go and he doesn't know any other option. Playing the Devil's Advocate.
Thanks for this!

If so, I hope someone explains it to him or her.

Yeah, calling it a special project is what makes this seem creepy. If I was a cop I'd probably call to find out what's really going on. This is suspicious to me, and it makes me worry about the son. I wouldn't want to be called a "project."

I'm worried for the cops too. Like maybe it's a trap to see if anyone falls for it.

We saw an ad on craigslist for a guy wanting a law student to do some legal work for him. It's against the law to practice law without a license, and this guy knew it too, because he was saying things like "your name won't appear anywhere on the paperwork" and "no one will know but the two of us." Just felt like a set up to me.

Even if it's legit, think how fast that 'escort' job could turn ugly. You might find yourself in jail for kidnapping. If you have to hire an 'escort' to get your son to the hospital, he doesn't want to go. You're not hiring them to protect your son. You're hiring them to keep him from running. If he runs and you give chase and catch him and drag him back ... ? And if you don't chase him, ... what were you being paid for? Maybe the whole deal is to trick the son into thinking he's in custody? That doesn't seem legal either. Or to persuade him to go to the hospital? If so, wouldn't a family member or mental health professional be a better choice?
