This whole thing doesn't sit with me.

I'm one who forgets to take meds all the time. Not just my lithium but also my vitamins, my antibiotics, even pain meds I can forget (even if I hurt.) A little chip that sends my phone a reminder won't help me in that area.

I don't even want a web cam in my house, I couldn't swallow a chip. What if the chip thingy got hacked? Is that possible? I don't know, the paranoia factor is way to high for the "it can remind you to take your meds" factor for me.

Yes, 1984..... I can see them chipping people. I bet first it will start with a group everyone wouldn't mind having chipped, like sex offenders or people who commonly get DUIs or drug dealers...... to make people feel safe. Then it will be kids... "why not know where your kids are all the time? It can send a signal to your phone!" Then it will be people on MI meds.... Blah!

PS. my oldest son's cousin has autism and here were I live they already GPS the kids with autism. He wears an ankle bracelette that has the GPS in it. It's because several years ago a little girl wandered away and drowned in a lake. But also because kids with sever autism won't approach people they don't know if they get lost, like a police officer or customer service person. He had to have a special bracelette made because he kept cutting his off (so he has a reinforced one.) He's 12 years old this year.

So apparently they are developing pills with microchips that feed back to a device you wear once the pill has digested and the chip is exposed. Ummm words cannot describe how I feel about this.

Ok this comes to mind, the novel 1984 was supposed to be a warning not a guide.
me too, sometimes, unbelievable!!!!!! I have feared this kind of thing coming along. . . . .

Not just for persons with mi - but for anyone who needs to take regular meds and has trouble keeping track. I think this technology could do a lot of good, too.
yes, but would be good if people or those responsible for folks you spoke of, could have a choice in this manner. Smacks way too seriously of nanny state or 1984 or anything like that. Very creepy!

Amen, and that ought to be discussed and researched. I have a problem with paranoia personally, and that started me going right as I read it. OMG, unbelievable!!!!

This is why I was leary about the gene testing you guys did. (And please don't tell me that the labs wouldn't give the government the info. The government is already monitoring our phones and the internet etc.) If I show a genetic predisposition for Sz, or whatever disease that needs to be eradicated, and the government accesses that info, then it's not too far off in the future that I will be forced to take meds and monitored with a microchip for compliance.

Also the drones that are as small as mosquitos that can follow people into their homes and surveil them, it's already happening.
goodness yes, agree to all you've said mimi, and actually have made myself adjust to some of this out of necessity. Guess I will with the med compliance issue. But I know if we (or the masses) take everything lying down, govt, big biz, the bottom line will roll right over us. I prob shouldn't even be saying this right now. Not like me to be this way. Glad I have a bit of faith, but struggling to find it now. It has been one thing after another as I see it, in recent years!

Here where I live? 200 years behind the cities. There are literally areas without electricity. Our family is the highest tech in this town. We have the highest speed internet. We have computers. Everything tech wise but most here are more concerned about cows. In fact the top story in this week's local paper was about a cow. They focus on cows a lot and I can't tell you what the other thing they focus on because I don't want to give my actual location away obviously.
hey, sounds like a nice place to live, in that respect!!!!! More peace!

Sorry the chip idea strikes a particular nerve with you.
again, another positive use, out of several. It's not all bad, but definitely not all good either. Sure raised my hackles!!!!

I don't see them very often any more since my ex doesn't use his sister as his babysitter that often now, but I don't know how long he's had it. But it was at least a year ago when I noticed it, I said "Why is he wearing a watch on his leg?" and she told me all about it. (It seriously looks like a watch band and it has a thing on it which is the tracking device.) She said most of them are shoe-string sized, but he doesn't like it so he cut them off with scissors. So the one he has now on the outside it's like leather or whatever, but inside is metal so he can't cut it off.

It's just one of those things that starts out sounding like a good idea then next thing you know it's used for evil.
