Do you think females may present schizophrenia/schizoaffective/psychosis differently than males?

i read somewhere females tend to be delusional about love and love interests. while males government and aliens and the like.

do you think this is valid or stigmatizing?

Love! Omg. I was supposed to tell this guy I was in love with him to stop hearing the voices. I told him several times then hung up on him when he didn't respond. Needless to say it did not work! No government....I rejected it as implausible because the gov isn't that competent aliens well I was re-editing katy Perry's song ET in my head but that's about it for aliens.

I would break it down to different personality types. For example if a person tends to fantasize about love or aliens, or if their main interests is love then they would tend to follow this path because they think about it more, and know more about it. I think a large part of it depends on what the person spends their attention and time focusing on. I tend toward magic and spirits, and so much of my hallucinations and delusions center around that area.

this is so good. i was just thinking about that but wanted other to respond. give others time to respond.

i tend to focus on governments. injustice. history. crime. news. poverty. racial injustice. i can go on but you get the point. so mine always came out about that stuff.

This is interesting. I never really thought about it before. I'm assuming it would come down to personality type, as serloco said, as well as your basic gender socialization.

Maybe a shift on a more positive theme could benefit you. I know when i was focused on religion and hell i started to get paranoid that i was living in hell. I started to see demons, sometimes even with horns. Reality would catch on fire too. When i started to focus on positive things like angels my entire focus shifted, and i started getting healing and positive perceptions(hallucinations). At least if your going to hallucinate or go into delusions at least we can guide or control them more, by focusing attention in a willful manor. ???

I used to see number codes and patterns everywhere i looked(when i was studying numerology), and when i started getting into geometry it was sacred geometric designs and symbols everywhere. I related it to the law of attraction, in that the minds focus draws manifestation. Any shift in focus however small incurs a shift of perception. so if you can control your mind you can control your state of being, or even the state of reality as you perceive it.

I heard the prognosis is better for women than men. Probably because they are more expressive of their emotions , where as men tend to be more tight lipped about these things. There may also be biomedical reasons for this.

Have a look at this

Schizophrenia in women and men -Schizophrenia- Schizophrenia Diagnosis-

I struggle with this one too. Its one of those experiences that no-one can surely say is unreasonable to believe, especially since there are plenty of historically documented accounts of spiritual beings existing and interacting with people.
My psychiatrist just couldn't accept that view, and insisted that I still have a biological disorder and need to be treated with APs.

Yes of course.

However, I think that it's often used as an excuse to misdiagnose males and females when they don't present with "typical" symptoms for their gender.

they misdiagnose males a lot with this i think. i mean when its something severe going on. males can hold in emotions and be considered flat affect. if a female shows it they are bipolar.

i heard female get diagnosed as having BPD a lot. it was a trendy dx in the 90s and i think in the past too before that. 90s if im right idk. BPD is similar to bipolar i believe in my mind.

That's true. I have NPD but was dx'd as BPD for years. It seems like any woman that's difficult to treat and self harms gets a BPD dx. There's more PD's than borderline but not many professionals pay much attention to that and it makes me angry.

And I swear bipolar is the most over-diagnosed mental illness right now. I fall short of the diagnostic criteria for bipolar but they keep trying to see something that's not there. I think I just have schizophrenia and not schizoaffective but I get sza a lot because I'm a woman even though my affect has been consistently flat for years. I can't relate to mood issues. I just don't see that in me.

Well, I don't have sz but...

Government, I never followed that path. Aliens, yes, yes, I had lots of things as a kid and afraid to sleep because the aliens were coming. But, no on the whole idea that they built the pyramids or that we're like planted here from another world type stuff.

Love... no I never had delusions about love. I always thought I would die alone before I was 22, due to bullies.

My delusions were all about other secret agencies and magical powers.. Now they are about people I know or sort of know.
