I need an ADHD med, but adderall and ritalin have failed me. They made my hallucinations horrible and I honestly thought I was going to be hospitalized since I was fearing for my life. I did a bit of research and it seems like every ADHD med causes hallucinations to a small percentage of people. Is anyone taking an ADHD med and is not hallucinating on it? Is it possible for a schizophrenic to take ADHD meds? I'm lacking so much focus and I have no idea what to do. I need my essay done, but I just can't seem to get started on it and it's bugging me so much.

This is a tough one, I would go out on a limb and say all pdoc's would say that this is a negative symptom of your diagnosis. I think that it's well possible that you could have had adhd prior to your diagnosis but psychotic type diagnosis would take precedence in terms of clinical judgement. As you have rightly pointed out ADHD meds are not useful for persons struggling with psychosis. I myself have audio processing problems , and have looked at trying to get meds that will help me think straight without the antipsychotic type side effects. To date I have not found anything.

To the best of my knowledge the meds that help psychosis in a nonaddictive kind of way are antipsychotics, antidepressants (with caution) ,Mood Stabilisers and anticonvulsants(with caution).

If you find an adjunctive med , let us know.

Some say Oxytocin is promising but I have heard that it can also provoke psychosis. You could investigate it with your pdoc.

I take adderall for add but i do it with great precaution and with the direct supervision of my pdoc. They are the first thing to go if I start becoming too psychotic, I was on dexidrine and it was helpful too.....D.
