to hear that that one man had kidneys not working worries me. overweight. kidneys failing.

notice how not everyone jumped to get off the meds? only 4 did. most chose reductions.

This was a great article written by a pdoc in favor of taking people off meds...
I couldn't imagine not being on meds. For almost 5 years I resisted meds and was very psychotic for most of that time and only recently have I been stable which lead to more success in my life. I take a very small dose of medication though and many physicians make fun of that, but I only need a little bit to keep my stable. I take 0.5mg of risperdal and I had one pdoc tell me that would be the dose for an infant, but it's honestly all I need. When I'm severely psychotic I increase it to 0.75mg then drop it back to 0.5mg when I'm doing better. My pdoc wanted me on 12mg of risperdal, but I told him that was not needed and I only need 0.5mg.

If you don't need meds that's great, but for those of us that do being on the lowest dose possible is the best solution along with learning good coping skills. It's hard to break out of delusions, but I find crystal healing to be the most helpful. I don't know if it actually works, but finding security in an item that makes me feel like the hallucinations/delusions can't hurt me and that I will be safe is needed.

It's a scary prospect...that was the subject of my first post here....I mean I had tried reducing the dose before and it was horrible but I really think it was withdrawl because I got angry and had anxiety and I never had either with my psychosis...but yeah I mean if your functional doing a job going to school whatever you have a lot to lose if you have another full break and there are not good stats out there for after-med effects. Like right now I am feeling so sluggish and unmotivated....it's been like 3 months off...am I OK is it just my brain receptors healing? I really can't afford a break if it happens again I will most likely stay on forever at the lowest dose I can...

I can't believe the docs are telling you stuff like that...dose for an infant?? I had a rapid reduction of voices ie in one day with 1mg risperidone....I can totally see that being an effective maintenance dose....yeah don't feel bullied by these guys. I actually never thought I would make it to no meds myself but somehow I ended up here after being pushed by my pdoc....it was worth one last try...working so far...fingers crossed.

I know my body well and I know that I don't need a super high dose like that. I stand my ground on that matter and my current pdoc doesn't try to increase my dose like my last pdoc because I can function well on a small dose. I would never want a high dose due to long term side affects and I feel like such a small dose like that will not harm my brain as much as a large dose.

Congrats on going med free and I hope it works out well for you

Shoveling your driveway doesn't sound like any fun. But seeing the movie Frozen seems like fun. How was it?

Sometimes i dont chime in on roll call if it seems like there is a specific topic being discussed, and i dont have anything to say on that particular matter. (Just responding to why maybe some people are quiet sometimes)

I saw it in 3D with my younger sibling and it was great! I'm pretty glad I saw it and I want to see the new Hobbit movie before it's no longer in theatres
