Since my psychosis has gotten worse I have noticed that it has become more hard for me to handle senses. For example I find it hard to listen to metallic sounds (symbols on a drum). Another example would be that sometimes I cannot stand the smell of toast and would have to cover my nose because the smell is so intense and my body can't handle it.

Has anyone experienced changes in their senses and do you think it could be related to my psychosis?

I've heard of this before albeit I can't remember the source but yes it is considered a symptom. In my cases colors were more vibrant even to the point where I thought I could see ultraviolet.

Yes, I have had this, too. I have haphephobia (fear of touch) that correlates with how psychotic I am and which is hard for me to explain... but I get really sensitive to people's touch and it feels super invasive even just shaking hands.

I also get really sensitive to visual patterns which makes me feel like I have special abilities... it's not a hallucination, just extreme sensitivity...

I suspect some of my hallucinations, especially tactile and some visual distortions were either the result of or exacerbated by hypersensitivity. I've gotten sensory overload once but that was the only time when hallucinations weren't involved.

This is how psychosis works. Its the basis for psychosis. Sounds become louder , sensitivity to light and movement becomes more pronounced , etc.

"Sensory gating" issues are common in schizophrenia and related disorders. Basically, your brain can't filter out irrelevant sensory information, so you feel overwhelmed by your senses.

I've experienced this, I I find it more distressing than hallucinations.

I'm so relieved to read this. I had a horrible experience the other day where everything was just too much for my senses. There was too much to look at too much noise it felt like my head was going to explode. I've had it with too much noise and light before but never as bad as that. I'm relieved to know what it was.

I have a question. Is it a sensory gating problem if you block out everything including important information? Because I do that a lot. Like my brain treats everything like background noise including important stuff or stuff that's relevant to me. It's very hard to focus because of this...
