Just wondering because my sanity score said I had a high dissociation score, but I've never been diagnosed with a dissociative disorder. I suspect the kinds of questions that led to that score (having trouble keeping track of time, poor memory, feeling like someone is controlling your actions, feeling like things aren't real, etc.) could better be attributed to my schizoaffective disorder. What's your opinion?

(Yes, I know the sanity score is not a diagnostic tool. I was just curious.)

I dissociate but i do not know that this is related at all to symptoms of psychosis.

I think this is a good question, i will be curious to read any replies.

I also dissociate, but my episodes typically last under a couple of minutes. I'm dealing with psychosis.

I dissociate, too. I don't think it's "related" so much as it's just one more thing that's pretty common for people with MI to deal with. I don't have a dissociative disorder, either. But, I think everyone does this to some degree. Also, dissociating has something to do with anxiety, I think.

I actually have the feeling that I'm two distinct people living in the same body, not multiple personalities, but two souls in the same body. And I perceive both at the same time - I perceive as me and as this second person simultaneously.
Thanks for this!

This interests me because I have Other Me who isn't me but who is part of me. But, I don't preceive as her, because she's not me. But, we talk. I don't know if she's a voice or a personality or what. I have no idea. I never really thought about it much until I came to PC, actually, she's just always been there. She gives me advice and helps me through things. I say "we" a lot, I don't do it so much on the forum, but I mean, to myself. We should watch a movie tonight. We should play a game. We need to go to the store. Stuff like that.

Also, I had another thought. When I talk to my kids I don't say "I" or "me" althought I've been trying to fix this conciously because it's made me kind of worried. I always say "mommy." Things like "Will you bring mommy some water, please?" Not sure why I do it, it just feels natural to talk in the 3rd person instead... my oldest is 11, so no reason to do that.

I've been diagnosed with DID with severe psychosis. Mainly because I see shadows and images of spirits around me. I haven't disassociated in quite awhile. So the answer to your question is yes.

I always thought dissociation was better explained by anxiety.
But I definitely think that anything is possible, so it's definitely a possibility that psychosis symptoms can include dissociation.

Yes, it can. I had a few experiences with depersonalization. My third finger on my right hand went missing and so did my legs.

Dissociation in people without a psychotic disorder is usually due to anxiety or trauma, such as CSA.

I feel dissociation everyday at the worst parts, I don't feel like I'm real. I feel foggy and I just feel like I'm living in a dream. I don't like it and I wish I could be clear!
