In the case I know of, there was no sign of schizophrenia until the person was about age 32-33. Then one of the brothers was murdered. After that one of the other brother's anxieties must have blown way out of proportion. He left the area and traveled around the country after which it was found out that he was doing so because he felt that a group of people were after him to kill him. He was also constantly worried for his brother and mother's safety thinking that the group was going to kill them. He was so out of it that he was then institutionalized

And even though he was psychotic, in regards to the brother and mother, it turned out that the remaining brother was eventually murdered for trying to murder someone else for calling his mother a ***** and the mother died 6 months later from the shock of losing her favorite son. But that last brother brought it on himself. He wasn't a product of a group trying to kill him. He was the product of someone elses brother taking revenge for him trying to kill his brother. He tried to kill a guy because he called his mother a ***** and badly wounded him. But he never thought that doing so would backfire and have the other brother come after him and kill him.

Hello JohnHarlin, welcome to Psych Central.

I do believe that psychosis is severe distress, so yes trauma can cause psychosis.

eh, that sounds a lot like extreme PTSD. The delusions don't come out of nowhere and aren't random, but rather come of a concrete event.

It can cause psychosis....usually brief though....

Looks like sz doesn't last as long....sz can be related to stress/trauma but often it just happens for no clear reason...
