Has anyone experienced an almost psychosis?
My situation is: About 30 minutes after smoking 5-6 puffs of a joint i felt a psychotic episode coming on, so i splashed water on my face and tried to ground myself in reality. i managed not to have an episode, but ever since then i have felt different.. almost like i could break into an episode at any moment. I luckily haven't broken out, and have been able to function fine, but the feeling is always there and it is starting to concern me a lot.. This all start about 8 days ago. Im curious to see if anyone has experienced anything like this. Thnaks |

Hi Johno9999, I have experienced something like you mentioned. Almost as if you're bringing yourself back to reality

It's a quasi-psychotic episode. Just be careful and be as rational as you possibly can even with "evidence". An anti psychotic at low dose should help and make you feel comfortable.

I agree regarding an antipsychotic. I did experience what you described many times when I was using LSD and pot. I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole now. Be well.

To your understanding, would the anti-psychotic become a permanent thing? Or would it just be temporary?

hmm, I'd stay away from pot and antipsychotics, if you can. Especially if you can 'ground' yourself with cold water (Smart idea!)
Sometimes Psychotic in another thread says she needs to have 6 months symptom-free to go off/start tapering off the antipsychotic. In Open dialogue Finland, they may give them for less time, otherwise, sometimes even for longer... Not sure what it's like in Australia? Possibly depends on your doctor too... |

I guess you'd have to talk about that with a good pdoc and see if you feel better with one? It might take trying a few to see. It could be you could try coming off in 3 months, but I would advise staying away from pot and all hallucinogens. And this is just my opinion as a fellow sufferer.

A friend of mine had a psychotic break from weed. It landed him in a psych ward for a week. Then he had to go on meds for a while but then he stopped the meds.

As long as you can ground yourself in reality, I would stay as far away from psychiatrists and antipsychotics as you can. It's only been 8 days: from what I've heard about drugs, they take a while to fully get out of your system, so try to be patient. Only if it persisted for a while or got significantly worse would I approach a doctor. It might also be a good idea to stay away from pot.

You need to stay away from weed. It makes people already prone to psychosis even more susceptible.
Weed makes me feel weird and distorts reality so I stay away from it. I even get 'high' off of other people's fumes even if I am not smoking it. Hmm....I feel like I wrote this once before. Creepy. The last time my shadow was communicating with me and my body felt very long and thin.

Thanks guys this is all very helpful! I'm stopping weed use.. It's not even a big part of my life anyway.. maybe once every few weeks so thats not an issue. Also a little update I'm almost certain what I'm experiencing is anxiety. The symptoms match perfectly! I'm already feeling better now that i know its not possible schizophrenia. It's definitely a load of...
