my daughter , who has been diagnosed bipolar and has been a handfull for years finnally went off the deep end. Shes 33 and left her family and home 3 weeks ago and was delusional and thought we were all out to get her. Long story short the police picked her up and she is now locked up in the hospital'

i dont know what to do. Im glad shes safe. Has broken no laws but is so delusional that shes still locked away from other patients on the psych ward after 3 days'

Im scared She has a 16 yr old and a 3 yr old

They are well taken care of and are safe. Im was involved in bringing her back to the city and into the hosp and im staying at my other daughters for a few more days to be close but i cant see her

im just freaked out

What will happen to her They told me she will be there a long time

I don't understand why she's locked away from the other patients. I also don't understand how they know she'll be there a long time.

I don't know what will happen to her. They'll probably give her some medication to try and clear up her thinking.

She is away from other patients because she is so off that she could be a danger to someone when she looses it. She thinks everything is secret codes and she told her daught on the phone....which she wasnt suppose to have.... that the hosp is full of sex rooms with kids and awefull things. They have put her on a mood stableizer to start but shes in bad shape.

She was taken in to emerg many times in the last 2 yrs and they wouldnt believe us Said she was looking for drugs

They only found prescibed drugs...valium... in her system
there is a serious problem

She opened a bank account with an old bf from 20 yrs ago so her sister is getting power of attourney to fix that mess

we have spoken to the psychiatreist and he knows exactly whats going on with her history it seems and he wants to help

I wonder why they don't just try an antipsychotic.

I don't understand why an emergency room doctor would accuse a patient presenting with delusions of seeking drugs. AFAIK no one fakes psychosis in order to score an AP.

She sounds like she has pretty typical delusions. My son has been in the hospital while delusional and was never separated from other patients.

and i think they figured that out
she has chiaries and had brain surgery 5 yrs ago
had to build a pocket at the base of her brain as it was trying to grow down her spine

so she is a pain patient as wel;l

She did want pain meds but we tried and tried to get her help for her as far as her bipolar and they could see she was acting crazy but said she was faking it

I hope you can get more effective care for her in the future.

That's too bad about the brain surgery. Do you think it contributed to her current problems?

It still doesn't make sense that she would fake mental illness to get pain meds. I suspect those doctors didn't want to get involved with the mental illness. I wasn't impressed with emergency room doctors and my son. They're out of their element, and they know it. They just want to get rid of mental patients. Hand them off to the mental health center's screener or push them out the door. Maybe that's just our local hospital. They don't have a psych unit.

If this is in the US, I believe she has the right to refuse treatment. If that's the case, that may be why she's in the more secure area. When I was in they have two different areas. In the more secure area they might keep you for a few days. Then they let you join the more social area, but it depends on the patient. They'd only refuse to let you come if she refused visitors.

we are in canada and yes she could have refused treatemnt That is why she is a secure area
As of today she is still in there and dilusional. I suspect the chiaris is not helping. We were told today she will be there at least 2 weeks so we can make plans for the child ect.
So for now i guess we wait and see what happens. Will keep posting
