I did one of those online screening tests for SzA yesterday, and it gave me a detailed analysis of my symptoms, not just whether I likely had the disorder or not. One thing it said I had were "bizarre delusions, Schneiderian". So, of course, I had to find out what "Schneiderian" meant.

Apparently there was this really awesome German psychiatrist named Kurt Schneider who contributed a lot to psychiatric thought on both sz and personality disorders. For schizophrenia, he came up with a list of "first rank" symptoms that are still used today. (thought broadcasting, insertion, withdrawal, delusions of control, assigning delusional meaning to ordinary perceptions, hallucinations of two or more voices conversing, voice commenting on everything the patient is doing); I've only had thought broadcasting and insertion, and feelings of being controlled.

In addition to his intellectual contributions, Schneider was morally badass. He refused to comply with the Nazi's sick idea of psychiatric experiments (which seems like something any moral person would do, but it really must have taken some courage!). He also sought to reduce the stigma of personality disorders.

He wrote a book that I really want to read.

If I get to pursue my dream of being a pdoc, I want to be like him. It's such a shame that nowadays most pdocs are burnt-out pill pushers who don't care about their patients. We need more passionate, compassionate, intelligent psychiatrists!

If you want to read about Schneider, here is a wikipedia article on him: Kurt Schneider - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here is a link to the page on SzA. It has a lot of information on the disorder, and then a button labeled "diagnose this" (sketchy, I know. I took it just out of curiosity; obviously I know it's not a real diagnosis). http://www.mentalhealth.com/home/dx/...affective.html

Click on "diagnose this" and it will make you go through a long series of questions related to SzA (or whatever dx you want to screen for; to look at others, look at the pages for those illnesses and click the "diagnose this" box there).

Just a few warnings: the test is very long, and the results are kind of insulting. They made me feel like I was really crazy. "If you don't get your auditory hallucinations under control, you will continue to hear imaginary sounds and voices that others can't", "if you don't get your delusions of grandeur under control, you will continue to think that you are intelligent and talented when you're really not".

Yes, seriously.

Supposedly the site is run by a psychiatrist. Not a very emotionally sensitive one. If you really want to be horrified, read the page on BPD. Apparently all borderline people are self-absorbed (to the point where they can't think of anyone else and are very abusive) emotionally immature losers.

Anyway, I discovered the site yesterday. I find it entertaining, and it has a lot of (questionable) information.

Exactly, haha! The idiot who wrote the test assumes that anyone who experiences psychosis isn't intelligent or talented. Evil person.

I took the sza test and apparently I am pretty crazy!! Also drugs are the answer (what else would a page run by a pdoc say?!). I could do with some delusions of grandeur though (or a brain transplant!), because I definitely don't think that I am intelligent & talented - I just joined Lumosity and apparently 99.9% of brick walls are smarter than me!!

This page was hilarious, so thanks for sharing Secretum.
