I'm not like you'd expect either. There's a lot you wouldn't see about me from my online posts. : /

i stand to think that everyone here is vastly different from their online presence. not trying to offend everyone by saying that.

I don't have a sz dx but I'm the same as atypical when I don't feel very good I don't come online because I'm in no mind to post.

No that makes sense. I'm generally new to this online experience of being a member of a message board. I would have thought people would bring themselves to the table as opposed to holding back lots of stuff. I suppose to think about it I hold back quite a bit too. I would wonder what it would be like for a stranger who has read my posts to meet me in person. I'm as normal as it gets in social situations though some of my past posts, not so much. :P

Well of course we're all different from our online personas. You can only tell so much through a computer screen. I'm not offended, it's just the truth.

we all need to remember that we all realize pretty much now that our online personas are different from real life - so not to be harsh with each other about our problems/issues and other things

I post whenever. Usually I visit this site regularly even when I am busy. Sometimes it overwhelms me so I go through periods where I won't post because I don't want to offend anyone. I find reading posts about self-harm and substance abuse really upsetting sometimes to the point where I want to be very direct. Self-harm is not a symptom of schizophrenia. It is a way of coping.

I've been diagnosed with ASD and a psychotic disorder that my psychiatrist doesn't want to call schizophrenia because I function fairly well even though I don't have a job and attend university part-time.

I don't post much about my "symptoms" because I get by okay. It is a daily struggle. It feels odd to me to tell others I sometimes hear voices or get messages in music or photos. In real life I don't really discuss my "illness" with anyone really so why do it here?

Very emotional stuff. Not what I thought I'd find when alot of people with scz or psychosis don't really share emotions or feel 'flat' to that respect.
I've noticed a lot of PTSD and mood symptoms on here so that probably explains why you have noticed that. Apparently a psychotic disorder with a mood disorder has a better prognosis than a textbook case of schizophrenia.

Well I've had 2 psychotic breaks and one mixed episode where I was close to a psychosis. Hope I'm still welcome to post.

Anyway, I should post over in the bp forum more but I have my reasons I don't. Same with the ptsd forum. It sucks, bc u can block ppl but they can still see your posts. I think if you block them they shouldn't be able to.

I'm pretty new to online forums to. Or any related to mental illness. I don't post much when I'm not well too.

Of course you are, I feel this community here is quite diverse and can allow people to connect with a wide range of users experiencing different symptoms. I would count quasi-psychosis and any other types of psychosis as a means to post here. I find it great here as I can relate to what alot of you say. Whereas the schizophrenics I met in hospital wouldn't be able to hold such relationships.

Apart from this one guy! We were in an adolescent psychiatric hospital and we had so much fun, we were separated because they thought I was a bad influence on him when it was him getting up to most of the mischief. I met him again in an adult hospital and it was like we were never apart. He's well able to function and you wouldn't know he had schizophrenia. Great guy altogehter, we still keep in touch!

I've just seen some very very ill people. People who are young, intelligent and haven't had a stab at life only to end up half of a person in a psychiatric hospital they'll probably never leave or will end up in care homes for the rest of their lives.

This one guy (Thor beard and hair), I was quite attracted to him and we would flirt and talk, then boom! He'd be in seclusion again and when he got out he had to shuffle around the ward due the heavy meds he was on. He lives in this acute unit where he is not allowed his phone/laptop/guitar/keyboard (he plays music) he has not seen any of his friends in over 2 years, he's no online access, can't listen to the radio or have a cd player, and his sister and mam come visit him for an hour each week. That is my idea of hell, he just passes it off as God trying to test him. Such a lovely bloke.

This is just one example of the types of Schizophrenics I've met personally.
Thanks for this!

Sorry i didnt mean to trivialize what you were talking about. The sentiment i was trying to express was that those of us more fortunate than the examples you've given should be thankful and make the most of it.

I've been in 6 times or so. Twice in my teen yrs and the rest since that psychosis where I didn't sleep for weeks, in 2011. I'm hoping to never have to go back...

My cats are tearing this apt up, lol. I need to clean bc this kitten is just running through here knocking everything down. Then my other cats join in. Their wild!

I can understand. One time I didn't shower for days and it was to the point of my mom and my uncle making me go take a bath. I know it's annoying but at least with my mom and uncle they were looking out for me.
