So I thought this was interesting, a lot of people like olanzapine(zyprexa) but not the weight gain....this drug combines olanzapine with another to reduce the weight gain and it seems to be effective. As per usual not available to us yet.

This is interesting. If it wasn't for the weight gain I would still be taking Zyprexa. It does wonders for my thought disorder like no other pill does. Even though I'm medicated now I know I can still get a bit nonsensical at times... and my brain is always foggy, cutting through that haze it si veyr difficult. Like the more I type or talk the more my crazy leaks out. Zyprexa was good for helping with that paritcualr issue but yeah I have to put up with side-effects I can tolderate and weigh gain isn't one of them,.

I'm glad they're thinking of ways to combat this very important issue.

So am I....I honestly thought they didn't care about it at all, this is the first med I've seen designed to address it.

That's what I thought too, that they don't give a damn. Glad they're paying attention. I'd be far more inclined to take something like Zyprexa if they could successfully find a way to counter the weight gain. I've thought about Clozaril too but again weight gain is a big concern...

If it's an opioid antagonist, would it increase pain? I don't know anything about drugs.

no I don't think so but it might block pleasure or any opiates you might be taking they we're talking about it blocking cocaine addiction. If it was terrible I doubt they would have finished the trials ....people would just bail....

I need opiates but haven't got any. I'm crippled. Nothing that I can do about it. No pain meds, no nothing. Thanks for answering. I'm sorry I sound so angry. I don't know why I'm so upset lately.

I was first put on Risperdal, an antipsychotic. I gained 60lbs rapidly with all sorts of side effects. I complained month after month until my doc gave up because I was at risk for diabetes and put me on Geodon. I lost all the weight and have no side effects. I'm still pissed my doc didn't put me on a better med to begin with. What a waste of time and stretch marks. I hope this med comes out. Weight gain is a big issue with me. Im fine with Geodon but I know it wouldn't work for everyone.

seroquel was the med that put 80 pounds on me. lost it all but gained 54 pounds on haldol. but i think because i was on injection for the first 30 pounds of haldol at such a high dose (100mgs). thats the worst dose ive ever been on of such a strong meds. but then again i was on 800mgs of seroquel.

think about that. why am i constantly put on high meds and hard (strong) meds. ive been on all atypicals and all but one typical.

I've been on both and had weight gain with both. I was on prephenizine though and had no weight gain. I actually lost 95lbs on it. now im back on another drug and have gained all that weight back. I think it would be great to have a drug that helped with this problem.

it's like we have to do all the research ourselves, the doctors don't give a crap.. this i find is depressing in itself!
