I often see a lot of really simple things that I feel don't compare to what is usually described as a hallucination. I see small swirls of smoke, shadows, bug-like dots flying up close, things moving in my peripheral and often just brief flashes of dots/lines/lights. I went to the doctor and checked for floaters in my eyes and stuff like that, but she said I was fine.
Are these still considered hallucinations despite being more "simple"? Do you think it's possible that they will escalate in time? Thank you. |

I see simple things too like you said. Or i see one item as something else for a second. like i will see a chair but think it is a dog because i see a dog for a second.

I don't think that is an actual hallucination.

Oh okay. Could I ask if you have been seeing these things for a while? I've been seeing them for about 5 months and they are more frequent now than when they started.

Do you have any ideas of what it could be caused by? I'm just trying to figure this out.

Actually, yes, these are hallucinations, most of mine are similar and they escalated slowly for me over the course of a year or more (hard to say how long or if they're still changing). Doctors have told me they're still hallucinations even if they're simple or short-lived. It doesn't have to be complicated to be an actual hallucination. I know simple hallucinations can be bothersome, when I'm not on meds I get many of them many times a minute for most of the day. Dots that always seem to move like bugs or spiders, seeing movements in the air, moving lines with weird waves after them, small flashes of light, moving shadows in the corners of my eyes, things that are vibrating quickly, things that float/melt or move towards me while also not moving, stuff like that. But mostly just bug-dots. And I get short-lived hallucinations, mostly of creepy shadow people or random things like someone touching my shoulder or feeling a bug on my skin. Some of the hallucinations are a bit weirder but still simple, they don't always happen as often though. Like seeing the sky segmentet into blue sqares and seeing small moving black and white energy "tentacles" from things only at night. I guess some of them could be optical illusions but my doctor when I was in-patient called my optometrist and she said my eyes were perfectly normal except that I don't have 20/20 vision.
