Hello I am new here. I would like to introduce myself and share this blog post I wrote about my experience of having psychosis. It would be interesting to if anyone can relate to it in this way.

Thanks,

ollie

Psychosis is a unique and deeply personal experience. It is generally considered as a "break from reality" and includes symptoms like disordered and delusional thinking, hallucinations and paranoia. It is the unconscious mind made conscious. It brings forth the world of dreams and nightmares into the light of day. These illuminations are highly emotional, personal and deep seated in origin. To write them off as simply delusions would be wrong as they are clues to a deeper level of experience and knowledge and not just a medical curiosity. What might seem to an outsider as erratic and manic behaviour might be to the subject something of a spiritual awakening. Metaphors and symbols so eleqouently expressed in poetry and literature are experienced face-on in psychosis. As there is no distinction between the real and the imagined they are felt on an almost religious scale and the emotions felt are direct and authentic to the experience. They are completely of that moment.
It is tempting to look at some works of art and literature as inscriptions of psychotic activity. Van Gogh being a prime example and also William Blake and Edvard Munch come to mind. They all have a kind of mad, fiery, fluorescent energy to their work. Biblical stories also contain metaphors such as the burning bush in Exodus that could quite possibly be the product of a psychotic episode.
In any case this not a topic to be touched on lightly and the reality of psychosis and schziophrenia is often tragic for those effected but it can also be a window into another dimension that can change minds and outlooks for the better.
Thanks for this!

Welcome to Psych Central wax and wane. Sorry you are having a challenge with psychosis. It is something that meds can help stabilize so a psych doc is a usual path to stability with meds. Psychosis is different in every person. Here is an inspiring TED talk about someone that found a way out of the darkness.

I work as a volunteer here at Psych Central and am glad to hear from people like yourself in a forum post or a private message. So glad you joined the Psych Central community. I have felt it is a safe and nurturing environment. Hope you feel comfortable here too.

Many people who are actively involved in Psych Central find it helps take them out of their own problems to develop empathy for others. And their problems though still there are more manageable.

There are lots of compassionate people here that can make the load lighter by sharing and caring. Feel free to participate actively at Psych Central. Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com
