Hey,

I'm just wondering how many of you attend a hearing voices group? Is there anything like that available where you are?

I sometimes go to one in Leeds. It helps to come to terms with the voices.

Unfortunately I haven't found anything like that near me. The area I live in kind of looks down on mental illness and its not talked about at all. Even if there was someone near me that had MI, they would likely not admit it.

The only groups I've seen was a general manager psych group inpatient at the hospital.

There isn't anything around here. Just general MI groups.

There is a weekly hearing voices group at a local MH drop in centre about 10 mins away from my house. I've thought about going a few times, but never have because I am not really welcome there, or at the other MH drop in centre a bit further away. I don't wear my heart on my sleeve and I fake functioning too well to fit their stereotype of someone with MI and so I am treated with suspicion and disbelief. I don't understand it myself because several of the people who are rude and suspicious of me seem quite high functioning on the surface too, yet somehow they are accepted and I am not.

I am glad that you are finding it helpful. I have read that the HV groups are supposed to be quite good though, if you can access them. The ethos behind Romme and Escher's work really interests me.

i like the concept of hearing voices group. but the training i went to was terrible. they were pretty much very anti-anything medical, like doctors. it might have just been those trainers, idk. it was in massachusetts, i went there with my T, another T and 2 residents of the program i was in

I attend a Hearing Voices Network group sometimes that i really like. I've learned and enjoyed hearing from other voice hearers a lot. We talk about a wide range of topics, and people really seem to keep an open mind.
