I blame my Dad for that... when I was 14 I told my Dad I wanted to learn the guitar, so he said he'd teach me. He took out his classical guitar, tuned it then started playing about on it himself totally forgetting the fact he was supposed to be teaching me... that put me off until later.

I guess I'd say I was alright at guitar, to people who don't play guitar they'd probably say I was good but I have high standards, knowing some friends who are wizards on guitar so I tend to be quite modest about my skills. Certainly I know if I'd played daily since I started, I'd be pretty damn good by now but unfortunately I've been a bit sporadic.

I started practicing a lot towards the end of Uni & was making fast progress but similarly, when my first psychotic episode happened it just fell by the wayside. I did start playing again after my first period of psychosis cleared but again after it came back I stopped. I was hopeful that coming off medication might give me the motivation to start playing again but thus far no luck. Perhaps one day...
Oh wow, nice guitars and amp man. You must tell me the specs of each though !! I downsized my amp recently to a 20W Peavey with multi effects thingy, it's essentially an effects pedal and amp in one and it sounds beautiful. I had a big clunky 100W Marshall for a long time but got rid of it as I don't gig or anything so there was no point keeping it.

I'm not terribly good on the guitar and rarely play in front of people but I do love it. I play for about 2 hours a week which isn't much but it's a big improvement to the year or so where I didn't play it at all. Before that I'd have picked it up every day for at least and hour. I've found my ability has diminished drastically since my episode but I put it down to not practicing.

Heres my baby, my ESP EX500 with EMG pickups, this is essentially the guitar I dreamed about having since I started playing.

And here's my semi acoustic custom Ltd Ed Epiphone PR-5E, lovely guitar to play and I just love the look of it.

Is it normal to still hear voices and get delusional when on medication? I find the only thing that has improved for me is insight, which is fantastic because within a day or two of a bad delusion I'm out of it and have insight. The majority of the time I also know that my voices aren't real and these absurd ideas I get fade quite quickly. Before I went like a year or two without any insight at all. Is it possible that the meds are the reason for this?

yes. i still get voices and get delusional on meds. but i believe them. its hard to explain. ive been so entrenched in them. for years. i dont beleive i can ever get away from them. the meds prob are giving you insight. along with practicing insight.

I hear voices that tell me to kill people all the time. Sometimes I feel like a complete psychopath but most of the time I think it's pretty funny.

Sometimes I believe the voices are real and the same with the delusions, but it comes and goes. Most of the time now I just laugh it off. I never thought I might be practicing insight hence why it's getting easier for me. Good to hear it's not just a me thing, another thread made me bring the question up. People where talking about how long it takes ap's to "work" as in get rid of everything. I never thought that was possible.

I'm so down today. And now it feels hot in here and I feel kind of dizzy. Not enough caffeine I think.

im not sure. i only say that because my therapist told me otherwise and theres people in my group that still have symptoms on meds. but idk any scientific facts to back it up. its just what i notice and hear.

***** me dude, how do you even find psych care that's willing to take you seriously? my last psych completely blew me off just because i'm miraculously able to hold down a full-time job. as if you have to be completely non-functional and come in gibbering and foaming at the mouth to be considered Sick Enough, but they treat you like you're less than human either way i guess. i''m so tired.

Supposedly there is a rule of thirds, a third go into complete remission, a third are helped and a third have no response. I say it's rare though because I don't know these people---they're probably less likely to visit forums. Most people seem to be partially helped with occasional breakthrough symptoms....

I meant I thought it was rare not to have symptoms on meds because most people do---sorry if that was unclear.....

I have a full time job----both of my psychs have taken me seriously, have you tried an academic center, you know a med school hospital outpatient treatment program, that's what I use.

Weed didn't care. It just bypassed the antipsychotic completely 100%.
