Using intellectualism to stop the anxiety that is driving the thoughts doesn't work. Balancing the different kind of thoughts from fantasy, analysis, self directed and others directed can help. You really need a rest from the thoughts if possible and hobbies are what are needed.

Using your thoughts to help find something else to do can help with the continuous thoughts.
