I tried to ignore the voices, I tried to thought block them, I tried to drown them out with TV, I tried to debate with them, I argued with them. This all created a lot of tension and anxiety.
The best way to deal with the voices I found was to accept them as part of me and accept sometimes they need to use shame as a way of control. The voices are more manageable and are quite pleasing to have around these days. |

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Wally02. Yes, I practice a similar sort of acceptance technique with regard to intrusive thoughts. I think that anytime we try to block such things, or stuff them back down, they just have a way of coming back again stronger than before. I'm glad to read that you've found this sort of technique valuable too.

I also used analysis as a way of trying to get rid of the thoughts/voices which didn't work that well in stopping them but it raised my awareness and led me to be more accepting
