It doesn't stop anything but it makes it to where I can tell if something is real or not much better. It also takes care of my anxiety and stomach problems as well. Overall, I can "deal" with just weed quite well. Though I can still get depressed. I heard it's actually really harmful to most people with schizophrenia. Is this because I have schizoaffective?

I think it varies from person to person, for example I have Schizoaffective disorder too but don't smoke weed because it makes me very paranoid.

I used to smoke cannabis but it made me very paranoid. Infact I was originally diagnosed with drug induced psychosis. I think it depends on the thc levels of the weed you're smoking.

I think it depends. I can smoke low grade weed without any problems but once I get to the hydro, I get super paranoid. I don't think it "helps" me in any way other than giving me a little lift.

CBD is thought to be beneficial for psychosis, whilst THC on the other hand is the complete opposite.
So, there is likely to a be a variation in effects depending on the strain smoked too. Cannabis was one of the things that brought back my psychosis, so I stay far away now. (however much I might like a toke... ![]()

Caused psychosis for me and then I was delusional and paranoid a few days after and I only took a few puffs.
I still like it though and maybe I could build tolerance to those side effects or smoke weaker strains of the weed. I applied for medicinal marijuana and this is what they said.. "Thank you for submitting your application. As you have stated that you suffer from schizophrenia, we will require a referral from your following psychiatrist in order to assist you further. It is highly recommended that patients who have schizophrenia are not treated with cannabis. I have attached to this email a document from the College of Physicians and Surgeon's website stating this. Please let me know if I can assist you further or if you have any further questions. Otherwise, I wish you luck in your continued search for relief!". |

Same here. I truly believe I'd be dead without it. I feel like it works better than my meds. I still need something else though.

If I could afford it I'd smoke it. I think it has very good anti anxiety properties and is less harmful than benzo's or 'z' drugs for sleep. If it indeed makes some people a little bit paranoid I would much prefer that than the addiction and seriously dangerous withdrawal from benzo's. Ideally it'd be great as humans that we didn't need any kind of drugs, but that's just not realistic. I say, if smoking weed helps, then go for it. Each to their own.

pot kept me stable for a long time, two decades even. now im not so sure it would be as good for me but my psychosis has changed in a number of ways and now im quite sensitive to pot's effects. I certainly wouldnt rule it out for everyone.

Although that might be the case, I certainly wouldn't be recommending anyone started smoking cannabis if they suffer from psychosis.
It's a pretty ****ing stupid idea overall. Hell, I'm all for recreational drug use but ideally people with mental health problems shouldn't be using illicit drugs, end of. The vast majority of the time they do more harm than good. However, if people who have used it in the past are stubborn enough to keep using it & it causes them no issues, then fair play. Who I am to argue. It's their life.
