It seems to me a psychotic illness isn't the best thing to go along with jury duty, but maybe that's just me. Has anyone here used their illness to get out of jury duty?

Yes, I used to be called for jury duty when I lived in NY. I had a note from a doctor I'd show them and I was always excused. But I haven't been called for jury duty anywhere else I've lived.
Thanks for this!

"I just think that guy/gal looks so nice they couldn't do anything wrong".

I was excused for making that exact comment on 4 occasions.
Thanks for this!

Well did you go? Yeah a psychotic illness is the perfect excuse. Too much hassle all round. Wouldn't do it.

Yes, my doctor has written a letter to excuse me from jury duty because I have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Not only are certain mental health conditions a "perfect" excuse, they are also a very "valid" excuse.

I will not knowingly put myself in any situation or circumstance that could possibly cause me to have a setback in my recovery process, and my doctor agrees.

It's already difficult enough as it is ...

Thanks for this!

It's not for three weeks but I need a doctor's letter....I may just postpone or change courthouses...we'll see.

Good luck.
I haven't been called for jury duty in years. I think if try to get a note as well. I can't imagine sitting on a jury with my loud head.

Thanks---haven't heard from my pdoc yet----I'm thinking odds are I'll have to go in and then get dismissed later on at the interview stage, I can't imagine them putting me on a jury. I wouldn't want me on a jury----I mean what if I started making decisions based on the spirits knocking again?

Yes.

My girlfriend and I both have diagnoses of paranoid schizophrenia and I never get summoned for jury duty because I have a federal diagnosis (from the military), but my girlfriend occasionally gets summoned for jury duty and her psychiatrist writes a note to the effect that she's mentally unfit to serve and it's accepted.
Thanks for this!

Very good - I said, 'no smoke without fire, if the police are happy they are guilty so am I'.

I got called for it once.
I got out because I was a college student.
