So recently I heard my voices but something happened right before hand that was kind of weird. I don't remember it ever happening to me before but than again I have been stable for the awhile and haven't heard my voices in a very long time.

Right before I started hearing my voices it was like something washed over my brain from front to back. I heard my voices two separate times in a 10 minute period. And each time before I heard the voices, there was a "washing over" sensation on my brain.

I talked to my psychologist about it the other day and she said she has heard of things like this. She called them an ora. It doesn't have to specifically be the "washing over" effect that I felt.

I was just wondering if any of y'all have experienced anything like this before visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations.

I read a book about hallucinations (outwith mental illness) that mentioned auras a while back.

Apparently they can happen to people before epileptic seizures & with migraines too. I would imagine there are probably a variety of other causes too.

I've never experienced one though.

What is the aura like for you? Can you explain it?

It's like a whole body thing. I guess you could call it a wave going through me. It makes my body feel like water balloons that are being pumped up. It's not uncomfortable just really weird. I wish I could explain it better.

What do you attest it to? Does it only happen right before a hallucination? My psychologist said it could be a type of migraine (my dad experiences these type of migraines; bright flashed of light) or a seizure. I honestly don't know what to think.

I found a word for what I experienced I think. It's called a Cephalic Aura.

It only happens when I hear that voice and have the visual hallucination. I attribute it to excessive amounts of stress. I haven't had a migraine in years and thankfully I've never had a seizure. My therapist just calls it an aura. She finds it interesting.

Gotcha. I have had ECT so my psychologist thought maybe my brain was having muscle memory about the shock. I'm not sure. That sounds kind of weird to me. I will stick with just aura. Thank you
