My dear friend(ex GF) from my youth is very troubled. She (and her brother) are extremely frugal/thrifty.
She hears voices/noises a lot. Otherwise she is very bright and "normal" person. Good heart, etc.
Her son is a complete basket-case and he is certified...Sad...
Lately she claims that there is a weasel living in her attic...making noises, and dragging something. She bought an expensive trap to catch this thing, of course, to no avail...
What do you think?

She is retired, and worried for her old age...I told her to seek professional help, she does not want to be medicated. The other thing is I could refer her to a pdoc....but I am not sure how effective meds are for this type of a problem.

I don't see a link between frugality and psychosis

Could this woman's problem be dementia?

Does Dementia cause hallucinations? She is not that old, rather youthful woman. Her son has some sckizoefective disorder for sure. I was loooking online but I did no see any label for being misery.

I think dementia causes hallucinations but I am not 100% sure. I do know it can cause delusions. How old is this person?

Frugality is not a mental illness....as far as the trap....it's not unusual for raccoons and other animals to invade an attic and avoid traps....good luck getting it out.

She is 62+...anyway, I am not "normal" (and I am proud of it) and I can tell someone who is like me...funny, how all my life the people who bonded with me for life are a bit nuts. Everybody is nuts but it is strange the the Power of Attraction works. She suffers from bad depression too. (but I do not think that has anything to do with being an extreme miser.)
