My son has been exhibiting signs of a psychotic illness for many years. I'll give the play by play later but here's the gist. He's 30 and until recently able to keep his driving job. Increased paranoia and delusions have made the road a scary place for him. WE HAVE NO OTHER FAMILY -- IM HIS ONLY SUPPORT SYSTEM. He can't work now and has come home to live with me. HE THINKS HES FINE AND EVERYBODY ELSE IS JUST STUPID, SO WILL NOT SEEK HELP. He blames all his difficulties on groups, families, companies behind the scenes messing with him to make him fail. I finally understand that trying to convince him otherwise only causes more damage to him and our relationship. However, it's extremely stressful to hear a barrage of thoughts all day that are not reality based in my world. Also he can be very defiant and angry when asked to do things like bath because he's smelly.

Do any of you who know firsthand what its like to be paranoid and delusional have any suggestions for how I can best support him, and how best to establish boundaries to take care of myself? I'm just trying to make it through the day while helping my son but maintaining my own sanity.
