Im schizoaffective. And i was wondering if anyone has trouble with intrusive thouhts?

Mine are not sinister or destructive just more of a nuisance. Its like having a reverie in middle of day and i am speaking to someone from my past in my head. I have to shake myself bring myself back to the present and try stay in the moment. I just get frustrated with myself for wasting time on something unrealistic thtas eigher happened or never will happen.

So any tips or books to deal with intrusive thoughts???

Wow, VanGore, sounds like our symptoms are a lot alike, except that I also have vicious and violent thoughts as well. Unfortunately, I cannot "shake myself" back to the present; the intrusive thoughts stay, most of the times, and rip through my mind. I'm not sure if "intrusive thoughts" and "voices" are the same; I experience my voices as intrusive.

I have only two techniques to deal with intrusive thoughts, and they are effective only about 20-25% of the time: one is to do physical exercise that lasts a while like taking a two mile walk, and the other is Cognitive Behavioral Social Skills Therapy which is a set of mental techniques for fighting psychosis. I wish I had better news, but I use both these tactics on almost a daily basis, and sometimes they beat the voices and give me peace--for a while. I take my Latuda, too, and it helps, but not much.
Thanks for this!

I could try the dealing with psychosis as a search i might get more results. Without my meds i experience psychosis.

I just feel so foolish with intrusive thoughts. I will be walking home from college after a stressful session trying not to think about what i ve said and my head spins off into a daydream like state and i dont mean to it just happens . It can be something thats happened an acute memory or a complete work of imagination.

Ha cool I was taught this before in cbt. It is extremely helpful. I use it most for grief. It's odd how calm you can get when you just accept things. My challenge is not becoming or staying too apathetic however. There are a select few voices / and sometimes delusions, when I recognize them, that I can just let be as well. Thanks skeezyks!

If you have an Affective Disorder you could be experiencing Anxiety from the disorder and thought supression to deal with the anxiety, but it backfires and your anxiety is causing you to deal with those stressful anxiety inducing thoughts.

An Affective Disorder means you have a mood disorder, but you also have a thought disorder, too, so you experience Anxiety AND thought disorder, which is more than just a mood disorder or thought disorder. You have a lot to deal with and learn to manage. Don't be so hard on yourself. I hope you feel better.

Have you tried a meditation? My t gave me this one....picture a stream flowing and a tree overhanging it---leaves fall from the tree into the water and float downstream----each time you have a thought attach it to a leaf as it floats away----it doesn't stop you from thinking the thoughts but helps stop them from circling over and over...

yeah a meditation strategy would help intercept my thought patterns as it seems to be the same things I think about all the time. If I channel my energy into meditation when walking, ill give it a go
