How do you know something isn't real? How can you tell that that cat isn't really there or that voice calling you doesn't exist?

How do you know that something is real? Do you know that that conversation you had really happened? That car passing by actually existed?

Is our universe and perceptions of reality based on shared experiences alone? How can you tell that something did or didn't happened unless someone is there to confirm or deny?

And how do you know that they are real?

First I trust in common sense, that up is not down, and so on. Next, I believe in my senses as trust worthy. How else would I get to the grocery store and back? Lastly, if that doesn't work, I need help from others desperately.

I usually check myself and use other people to check for me. Like if i hear something that idk is real, ill ask other people if they heard or saw it too. But casually ask them because i dont want them to know why im asking them. You know?

I use the things around me to reality check. If my dog doesn't respond it's probably not there. I'm very good at knowing somethings not true that I believe is true.

I'm very much if I think it happened then it happened.

I try to Gauge the people's facial reactions and body movements ,if they heard what I heard they will be like ???
If they keep talking or doing as normal i ignore what I heard

If I am alone I have no idea and just try to manage

That never works for me. lol. I have this effect where if I look at someone to see if they react the same way then they look at me weird, but are they doing it because they heard something weird or because I'm looking at them weird. God, its funny now, but back when I was deep in psychosis it was terrifying.

I just feel like there's something stopping me from truly accepting that something is one way or another. If this person can see it what if they're not real and it's just my mind making the attempt to convince myself this is really by adding more fake evidence to prove that it's right and that it's real when it's not there's no real point where I think my mind can stop it from creating the evidence.

Maybe you guys are just hallucinations you guys are all fake and my mind is just making you up to support itself trying to play tricks on me it just goes deeper and deeper what is real anyway why does it matter so much to convince me of these things

The way my illness works, with visual hallucinations, is that at first I think they're real. Real cockroaches running around my room, real homeless people laying in puddles of their own urine, real cars heading straight for me, real cops pulling their guns out of holsters as they prepare to blow me away. Then after a few seconds they go away. I don't think this sort of hallucination lasts more than about ten seconds. But there comes a point, a few seconds into it, where I just know they're fake.

I've had delusions last more than a decade, but audio hallucinations that go on for days, but visual hallucination only last for seconds.

I can tell my auditory hallucinations aren't real because I have the kind that are located inside rather than outside my head.

As for delusions, though, I try to rely on other people to test reality. But when I'm acutely psychotic no amount of reason will convince me that what I'm experiencing isn't real. If someone had a good solution for this, I'd be glad to hear it.

How I see it right now is that there is no way to know what is really real. This is only my opinion, but I see reality as a consensus, there is a norm about what should be real or not. There are people who are psychic and are completely fine and happy and what we call functional, and their reality might be different then mine or yours or from another psychic's reality. And yeah, this is a bit confusing, so we need a reference point not to loose it...
I can never get out of my own perspective, so in this case it is possible that the whole world only exists in my experience, including you all. But then, talking about this with people who exist only in my perspective make this quite funny...
But I know this above idea doesn't help me much so I try not to focus on that.

I've had a few experiences where I saw stuff and then later they were not there and now I started also watching people's reactions because I've started questioning if I am actually sharing the same reality with them or not, i.e. I might be having different experiences than them. But this just makes me paranoid...
