I am fairly certain I am schizophrenic and am curious what kind've jobs you have?
I ask because I would like to pursue a doctorate in psychology but am concerned that it will be hindered by the disorder. |

Adequately treated, there's no reason why you couldn't persue a psychology doctorate with a sz diagnosis. Though if you want to do clinical work, you will need to check licensing rules. In the UK, you need a supportive pdoc to monitor you for fitness to practise issues, and I imagine it would be the same elsewhere. But there are many famous psychologists that have sz, so it is possible! The UK psychologist Eleanor Longden springs to mind off the top of my head. She has done a really good TED talk, if you're interested, called The Voices in my Head. As for me, I was a medical student and then I left to study psychology. I haven't worked paid jobs (but I have had various voluntary positions), but I'm hoping to be able to return to my medical studies at some point in the future. All the best ![]() *Willow* |

I used to be a prune picker. Then I was a commercial fisherman as a young man when most of my breakdowns happened. After my breakdowns faded away in my early 30's I became a SPED teacher for quite a while. Now that I am retired, I like to consider myself as a self-employed hunter/gather. In the mornings I walk around to the different stores in the neighborhood hunting for bargains on food, gather it in my backpack and then bring it back to our base camp.

Going to college full-time and am an honors student. Studying diagnostic medical sonography. Mental illness can certainly be an obstacle, but it's not impossible for us if our condition can be kept largely stable.
