Has anyone here taken Risperal?
I just started it tonight, 1MG - dissolvable tab.
Is there any weird side effects you have experienced with this?
Did it work?

I've always been afraid of meds...
Should I keep being so?

I hate Risperdal. It made me even more paranoid and it killed my creativity. That and Lithium are the worst drugs I've ever taken, except maybe Abilify. I'm still searching for the right med. Geodon works, but kills my brain at school.

Risperdal did nothing for me -- good or bad. As they say, YMMV.

Ripserdal is a great drug for some people. The only advice I can offer, is that it can cause you to be really hungry, which can result in weight gain. Instead of eating foods with high amounts of sugar, sodium, or carbs, try things like carrots, celery, or other fruits and vegetables. Try and eat small meals every couple of hours (instead of 3 main meals), and you should be okay.

I tried Risperdal, and it did nothing but make me put on a tonne of weight. I know someone else who takes it and thinks it is the best thing since sliced bread, so it really depends on who is taking it.
I think you should stick with it, you can try something else later if it doesn't work, but if it does, it'll be worth it.
Good luck

When I was on it, it made me very tired and I gained a lot of weight, but it was still effective.

It's the pill I used to take when the Abilify wasn't working. But yes, it does kill creativity.

I started on 2 mg and it totally wiped me out and caused rapid weight gain. I can really only tolerate .5mg and I still feel a bit flattened by it, because it does help to keep my mind at ease.

I take provigil to counter the drowsiness and lethargy.

To be honest, not a big fan. I'm switching pdocs and hopefully will get some major changes to my medication regimen.

I have found it has been helpful to an extent. It seemed to enable me to feel some positive feelings for a change, something I hadn't felt in a long time, but it is not consistent in this effect. I take it on an as needed basis which is not what was recommended, but it does seem to have an ability to change thought patterns. sometimes 1/4 mg is enough to notice, but it does seem to give me minor facial twitches at higher doses, so I am cautious with it. I got really wiped out with 1mg, but maybe I should just follow doctor's advice and take the1mg a day

It has helped me tremendously for my hallucinations and sleep problems as well as for my obsessive thoughts. Even though I was diagnosed as bipolar. Could there be a chance that I might be schizophrenic? But I have noticed that I have gained a large amount of weight, notwithstanding the stress I have been under.

hi standstill,
i was put on risperdal one year ago because i was experiencing fragmentation and dissociation (feeling like your thoughts and emotions are all fragmented and chopped up inside). I feel like it saved my life. i moved around to different doseages and have finally settled on .5 broken into 2 doses a day. it comes with a price. i feel much more lethargic, weak, weight gain, a feeling of being dumber, not as quick or alert etc. i wish i could stop it but everytime i try, the original symptoms reappear.

I'm on 3 mg a day & love it. It's really cut down on the number of dissociative episodes I experience. When I went from 2 to 3 mg a day I noticed a big difference. It felt like I was coming to after a long fog and thinking more clearly. The only downside is sometimes I feel like sometimes my thoughts are fighting my brain to get out.

The only side effects I've experienced are lactation, a messed up menstrual cycle, and increased photosensitibity.
