I hate knowing that a portion of my memories never really happened. The memories are increably real though so I have no clue what did or did not happen. Has anyone found any tricks to separation fact from on fiction?

My only trick is to ask other people what they’ve experienced in their reality.....we live in the consensus reality after all.

Ok, I used to do that but I have kind of isolated myself the last year so I am out of people who I can really ask.

Can you ask in an non-suspicious way if they remember something pertaining to that memory? Like say, “Hey! Remember when such and such happened...?”. If they say no, you could just pretend you mixed it up with another thing that happened. OR! Why don’t you secretly write down these memories in a journal... Make two columns of why the memory could be real and why can’t be real. Make sure to put down what age did it happen, the day, the time and see if it adds up or make since. You can share it with your therapist to help you.

Most of the dreams I like are not strange enough that I would even think they were fake, every once in a while they are a bit strange, like when my lsndlord brought a inspector from the public health department to tell me I needed to keep more on top of my dirty dishes. For example today though I went to get a bottle of water out of the fridge and found new groceries I have no memory of buying, I like alone so there is no way they got here unless I picked them up at the store.

I've heard people would use a camera and take pictures of visual hallucinations and if they don't show up on the picture then the hallucination isn't real.

This is true, I’ve also tried to tape record auditories but trust me if you’re really sick you’ll be able to hear the hallucinations again even on a blank tape.

With me I just make excuses like... they are ghost of course it's not going to show up on camera or hear them on tape recorder.

Me too. I had all kinds of thoughts why it didn't show up on recordings. One reason was that the sound was direct in my skull so it couldn't be recorded. What a nightmare.

After many decades of battling schizophrenia I have learned to separate delusion from reality mostly by having a huge respect for rationality, logic and reason and being a seeker of truth. If things don't seem to add up I place them under a microscope and look for the weaknesses or flaws that contradict reality or what I know reality should be like.
My type is Paranoid Schizophrenia. On top of that I'm bipolar and have DID with two four introjects so, fantasy vs reality is something that I continue to question within from time to time. Being observant and analyzing your perceptions and memories will help you to get to the bottom of things. Just stay calm and focus your mind on separating fantasy from fact. |
