Hi,
My son is very ill. Like you would see on the streets. He pees and poops himself hasn't showered in a year. He's in his own world but can speak to you if he chooses. He's very violent and screams at the demons that yell at him. He shadow boxes demons he says are beating on him. Has anyone here been this bad and come back? What has helped you? I'm so afraid please help. |

Hi, welcome to PC, I see this is your first post. I hope you find some support and answers here.
How old is your son? Can you get him in to see a psychiatrist (PDOC)? A PDOC can prescribe medications and accurately diagnose your son. If he is unwilling to see a PDOC, you could start with your family GP or Pediatrician depending on how old your son is. From what you have written, it sounds like he may be having hallucinations. This could be a sign of psychosis. If he is unwilling to see a PDOC and you are concerned for his physical safety or your own, you can call 911 (I see you are in the states) and have the paramedics come and take him to the hospital where he will be evaluated and possibly at that time hospitalized. If he is hospitalized what they will likely do is stabilize him and put him on some sort of medication and he may have some sort of inpatient therapy. They will likely make a treatment plan that he will need to follow which can be very difficult to make someone else do, if he doesn't "buy in" to it. Medication can be a lifesaver in my opinion. Therapy can also be helpful. I do both therapy and medication as ways to combat depression and psychosis. Feel free to keep writing here and people are listening and will try to help you. Best. Kit. Hello strawberry. Welcome to PsychCentral.
![]() Based on what you wrote, I doubt figuring this all out is going to be something you can do alone. You're going to need the assistance of mental health & perhaps legal professionals. Since I don't live in California I can't tell you specifically how to proceed. It may require a concerted telephone effort to figure out who to talk to, what needs to be done & how to proceed. But it sounds as though this may be what needs to occur & as soon as possible. If this is beyond your capacity hopefully you can find someone... perhaps a family member, trusted friend or a not-for-profit human services organization where you live that can help. I'm sorry you are faced with this most difficult dilemma. I hope you find having come here to PC to be of benefit. ![]() |
