My therapist assigned me to make a safety plan so that when I become psychotic, I have something in place before I start cutting or get suicidal. I listed all the red flags, but I'm not sure what to do next. Anyone ever done this type of plan? I really want to do a good job on this because I know it is literally a matter of life and death. It's hard as I just don't trust myself to do it right.

The thing I like about the idea of creating a safety plan is that it implies that you deserve to be safe. That was not easy for me to accept.

I would just include all of the things you want to remember when you might not be able to naturally retrieve them from your brain.
What calms you down now? Who do you call when you are most upset? Do you have any severe allergies? Do you like people to touch when you are angry/sad or stay away? Things of that nature... maybe pretend that it's a list of things you'd want people to know if you couldn't talk. Good luck with the plan. I'm sure you are doing a wonderful job. |
